I just don't understand how they can be so damned disorganized!

I always schedule my appointments so that they're the very first ones for the day and ALWAYS have to wait. Had an 8am appointment today - I got there at 7:30 and they didn't see me till 8:20 Chat Icon Chat Icon

This is the FIRST appointment of the day!!! How can they possibly have been backed up already!!!

I'm seriously considering canceling my 32 week anatomy scan because I just don't have patience for that BS again ... but we'll see.

All that said though, DS2 looks healthy and is doing great. He weighs a whopping 1 lb 8oz (at 24 weeks) so I guess that's good Chat Icon

Oh, also a note - no kids are allowed in that area because of the enterovirus. I didn't realize that rule applied to the sono area so brought DS along ... poor DH had to wait in the lobby with him the entire time and they both missed the sono Chat Icon

May I ask why you would arrive 1/2 hour early for an appointment? Things happen, doctors get stuck in traffic, equipment decides to give techs issues, it happens. I would NEVER in a million years EVER arrive for an appointment at a doctors office 1/2 hour early, but that's just from experience working in healthcare for about 13 years. I've never waited more than 10 minutes there.

Bc LIJ is a hospital, not only do they see patients with appointments but people from the ER when there is an emergency. Same staff, equipment, drs, etc. Any time there was a delay I took it only for that reason. And the one time I was sent there bc of decreased fetal movement I was thankful they saw me ASAP, which did delay their appointments.

A lot of places also schedule several appts for the same time. So there could have been 3 people with an 8am appt...I know my doc does this which is annoying as hell!!!!

Personally, I think being seen at 820 for an 8am appt is great. I love getting my sonos there. They we friendly and though and the wait is so much less than other places.

I agree... I really love the doctors there too, they are all so happy and really explain everything.

I've been there 7 times now between my previous and current pregnancies and have never had a good experience with the wait (the staff is great and I've never had issues with them).

The 20 minutes delay today was actually the fastest I got in ... 3 hours was the slowest. On average, it's more like an hour's wait though.

I'm glad to see everyone else has had good experiences there - I wish I were that lucky too Chat Icon

Inpatient emergencies. That's why they are late. The mommies in the antepartum unit who are hospitalized get priority if there is an issue, as it should be. It does suck to wait. I was pregnant with triplets and would wait over an hour sometimes. Sitting in those chairs was excrutiating. But it is what it is.

I know-when I go I usually have to wait; usually no longer than 20 minutes though. I would have left waiting there for 3 hours-that's just crazy! An hour? Fortunately I have only gone 5x (3x with DS#1; and 2x D#2). Once I had to wait over an hour because they were packed up due their computers being down or some sort of equipment problem. But they called me and I knew not to arrive on time.

Crashing...
I'm a nurse and always arrive to my appointments at least 20 minutes before the appointment time especially the OBGYN(we use the same one) In the perinatal unit where I work we always double book. If there are 3 pts scheduled for 8:45 and one come in and signs in at 8:15 then the other at 8:30 and we are done with the 8:30 scheduled pts we will call the the one who signed in at 8:15.

OB offices are particularly bad, so 20 minutes after is really not bad at all.

Has that ever worked for you at that OB? I used to always be on time and would wait so at this point I end up getting there late (I just won't rush out of work now).

When I was preggo with DD it went either way. There were times I was in and out. Then there were days I would be there for hours. She tries to schedule most csections and surgeries on Tuesday mornings so won't go on Tuesdays because she would always get backed up. I found if I got there before 4:30 on Thursdays I was in and out. Also Friday mornings are good as well.

I've been having to go to north shore for them and my wait has been 45 min to an hour and a half. I have to go each week now and I dread it!

Re: sonos @ LIJ suck

My old OB you waited 1.5 on a good day. I once waited 3.5 hours to get the results of a test.

The other day I had to go at night to my new office and waited about 40 minutes, but my friend was in the waiting room so it went fast until she got called in.

But I'm lucky, I can usually go during the day and usually don't wait at all.

But honestly a half hour isn't bad. At any doctor I consider a half hour a victory. I generally plan all doctors to take at least 2 hours from appt time.
