2nd OB Appt?
I'm going on Thursday for my 12 week appointment (although I'll technically be 13 weeks). DH can't make it because of a prior commitment and my mom said she would come with me, but I don't want to make her travel to my doc's office if they aren't going to do a sono (which I think is what she really wants to see!) Are sonograms "standard"? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the 12 week is a standard sono. It's the nt scan. I had it for both pregnancies.

I didn't have a sono at my regular 12 week appointment, however at around 12 weeks I did have the ultrascreen/NT scan (at a separate office). Did your dr discuss that with you? If you'll be having that done, that entails a sono, which is the first time you'll see your baby looking like a real baby- it's amazing.

Same, but my OB sends you out for the NT scan. They will probably tell you if your having a sono when they call to confirm because they will tell you to make sure you have a full bladder.

Thanks, ladies! I already went to LIJ Katz last week and had my NT scan done there. I'm sure they sent over the results to my OB which we'll discuss on Thursday (I hope since I haven't heard anything that no news is good news) I was just wondering if I would have another sono at the OB office since I just had one for the NT. If its just going to be a no-sono appointment, it doesn't make sense to have my mom drive out to meet me at the appointment -- I'll just go alone.

Other then the NT scan the only other sono my office does is the 20 week one. At 12 weeks they listen to the heart with doppler.

I didn't have a sono at 12 weeks aside from the NT scan. The next one with my office is the 20 week anatomy scan and then a 36 week growth sono. That's all my doctor typically does.

I had the nt scan at 12 weeks, a gender soon at 16 weeks, and the anatomy at 20..all were done at my obs office, except the anatomy which was done by a high risk at lij
If you just had the nt I doubt you'll have another soon this week...

It's a sono. They measure the baby. They check the neck fold and look for a bridge in the nose etc. I also had a finger prick to follow up the sono with blood work. I like the 12 week sono bc the baby is so small so you can see it really well. Not like when you go back for future scans when the baby is taking up the whole uterus and it's hard to see.

The bloodwork part depends on the doctor. Some don't include any, some do a finger prick, and some do a regular blood draw followed by a second blood draw a few week later. They're looking for markers for down syndrome and heart defects. As far as the actual sono, it's awesome. The baby looks like a real baby and it's small enough to see all of it at once and watch it move around.

My NT scan tech took a ton of great pictures for me. It was on a huge screen where I went and so much fun to watch. The blood test hurts though. And I'm
IVF so I'm used to giving blood, but the finger prick was terrible.

Your office sounds like mine-I went to LIJ for the NT; then had my 12 week office appointment. All it was for me was follow up blood work. No sono
