Poaching Chicken

So I am not much of a cook but now with an almost 15 mo old, I need to start making more easy, edible things for her to eat.

What's the easiest way to poach chicken? Boil in a pot with water? How much water and chicken? What veggies and spices can I add to make it less bland?

I need easy and step-by-step instructions. Thanks!

Poaching Chicken

I normally wait for the water to boil and then drop it in. I put enough water to cover the chicken completely. It will be very bland though. I only poach chicken when I need shredded chicken for certain recipes.

I make chicken taquitos, chicken salad, chicken noodle casserole bake... it's hard to eat poached chicken by itself. I would mix it with something.

Off topic but can you tell me how you make the chicken noodle casserole bake? Sounds yummy!

You can poach it in chicken stock for some added flavor. Also maybe try dark meat since it will stay moister.
It can still be dry like pp said so you can try adding it to rice, mac and cheese or put it in a quesadilla if your lo won't eat it plain

Thanks! What do I need to do to make it less bland? I will definitely add it to different things if I make it plain but I'd like for DD to eat the chicken by itself (has been hit or miss so far).

I would season it after cooking.

If you want her to eat it plain I would buy bone in, skin on chicken and bake it in the oven. It will be much more flavorful and moist that way as long as you don't overcook it.

I agree. just buy thighs with the bone and skin and roast with salt and pepper and a little olive oil.
it will be more palatable.

oh sure! Its the one from skinny taste. it's actually my favorite recipe from her site aside from the rice ball casserole. I try to make a little more than the recipe calls for and throw in the freezer before baking.

Also, I would make it on a weekend b.c it can be a little time consuming between poaching chicken and sautéing broccoli etc.

I usually use frozen broccoli, steam it in the microwave and then sauté with garlic. the recipe also calls for shallots, which I don't always have, so don't worry if you omit them. I hands down love this dish. hearty, rich and delicious. also, I always put a little more cheese..

def bookmark this recipe!

see I cannot eat poached chicken, to me its like eating the chicken used to make ch soup. No taste even when I add stuff to it.

How do you make it taste good after you boiled the flavor out of it?

I usually use roasted chicken for those same dishes.

Poaching Chicken

Don't poach, no one wants to eat boiled chicken. Just roast/ bake it, it comes out so moist and flavorful.
