Bordatella vaccine

Our boys have not had a bordatella shot since we got them b/c we do not board them and both of their breeders suggested that we not get it so we do not jeopardize their immune systems. Given the kennel cough they got at the groomer, the vet suggested that if we get them professionally groomed, we may want to consider it. I have heard that there are many strains though and bordatella does not prevent all. Do you all give your dogs bordatella vaccine? Any side effect that you have noticed?

Re: Bordatella vaccine

My kennel requires the Bordatella vaccine, otherwise I never would have gotten it. I don't recall any side effects.

Re: Bordatella vaccine

I do not give my dogs bordatella but I never board them and they don't get groomed- they are short hair and I clip their nails.

Re: Bordatella vaccine

Sorry to hear they got kennel cough from the groomers. We dont get the vaccine for Murphy unless we board him, it was only one time while on our HM. But all the groomers I have have looked into required that vaccine before they would take the dog. Chat Icon

Re: Bordatella vaccine

I do give Emmie the Bortatella shot. They now have a 3 year shot that emmie had a terrible allergic reaction to. So, I would not suggest that route. But, she never had any problems with the one year shots.

She doesn't go out much, but she does go to the groomer.
