Dental Filling for Child 4 years probably needs GA or sedation, anyone?

My son has 3 caviites , maybe more ..and needs GA (the dentist does not do sedation)
Does our health insurance cover the procedures? (I think NY is a non mandated state )

I went to a dentist who is in private practice - he quoted about 600$ per hour in anesthesia and then facility fee was 350$ and then his dental charges.. about 600$

Went to another dentist who sent a different code to the insurance instead of dental filling - so of course my insurance approves it but when anesthesia call they said they don't cover dental fillings and they will charge 3500(looks like they charge for a brain surgery instead of tooth cavity filling surgery GA )
Any recommendations , even though I am in Westchester I can come to Nassau if needed
Any advise?

I would first go for a second opinion. My son was told he needed some teeth pulled, filled, etc. and it was going to be thousands for the sedation since insurance didn't cover it. I took him to another place, he needed one filling and they were able to do it without putting him under. I took him to Stony Brook University's special need's dental program. I felt like they put his best interest first, not their bottom line, since they have no vested interest in whether or not their facility makes money.

My SIL took my niece at that age to Broadway Smile in Massapequa when she had several cavities. They are a true pediatric dental practice and I heard they are good with SN kids as well.

I believe they did all the work there. They accept lots of insurances.

I'm going to change mine when open enrollment starts so I can go there with DS.

I also know they offer a somewhat affordable out of pocket plan for basic services because they told me over the phone, in case anyone is looking for that. I believe the quote was $350 a year.

KellyFG also has a lot of knowledge of the dental field because I believe she trains dental offices for a living on how to better serve their patients. You should FM her or post on FHF.

My sister had to take my niece at 3.5 yrs to get cavities filled. They had to fill them because the dentist said the molars would stay there till she is at least 11-12. They had to put her under anasthesia. I know that my sister's insurance plan did not cover all of it. She had to pay a lot out of pocket.

Can you get a payment plan?

It sucks but I think a lot of dental procedures aren't really covered.

My last dental plan, I needed my own wisdom teeth pulled and it was $500 a tooth OOP.

So I have been reading and I was wondering if a medicaid waiver will cover any dental..? I read that it does not depend on the parents income level..

My son needed to be sedated. He had to go to the hospital. My dental coverage paid for the dental work, and my insurance covered the hospital portion such as the anasthesia
