8 years old needs Botox for beauty pageant

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - How young is too young to receive Botox? For a mother in California, 8 years old is old enough for her beauty pageant daughter.
“We were getting into the pageants," Kerry Campbell told ABC's Good Morning America. "I knew she was complaining about her face, having wrinkles, and things like that. When I brought it up to Britney she was all for it."
Britney gets five shots to three different locations on her face. She has visible discomfort in the ABC interview , even admitting to the pain.
"It hurts sometimes," Britney said. "It makes me nervous. But I get used to it."
Britney’s mom is a part-time aesthetician and gives her daughter the shots herself. She said that other pageant moms do the same for their daughters.
At least one doctor said that the concern goes beyond the physical harm being done.
"Well, when I first heard this story, I think my initial reaction is to be a little bit in disbelief, and a little bit horrified. There’s a lot of psychological damage that can be caused," Dr. Charles Sophy told ABC.
Britney’s mother disagreed with the psychologist.
"Do you see anything wrong with my daughter, psychologically?," Campbell asked. "I don't see anything wrong with her. I have a normal child. It's not breaking her spirit. She's happy. She runs around. She's smart."
A local social service agency is reportedly investigating Kerry Campbell’s treatment of her daughter.

what wrinkles does an 8 yo has? I mean she does not even have pimples from puberty acne!!!!!!

I think it would unethical from any Dr. to accept to do the procedure.

While I don't agree with giving a child botox, I don't think she is an unfit mother which is a lot what the media kept bringing up. People make very stupid mistakes and this is one of them. I really think there are a lot bigger things to deal with that CPS should be concerned with than a mother being unfit for giving her child botox, which I still think is really dumb.

I saw this on GMA yesterday. The only person whose appearance this woman should be focusing on is hers.

I could not believe how she had no problem sharing how she obtains botox from an unnamed source and injects this into her child's face! How does she know she won't cause permanent facial damage to this beautiful little girl?

I don't think she's an unfit mother per se, but this is just deranged.

That is nothing short of sad. I agree though that this little girl is going to have issues with her self image as she gets older and other psychological issues as well.

So you think injecting an 8 year old's face at home with a foreign substance that was obtained illegally is something a "fit" parent would do? She's not a doctor, and she is obviously getting this stuff illegally. The poor girl's face is all swollen

I think she IS unfit. Obviously she's insane to do this to her child. She is injecting a medication into a child (that she somehow KNOWS is safe....) for NO medical reason at all, and can possibly be damaging the child. Putting her at even the slightest risk is too much risk to take. In addition, I believe I heardon the news that in the state of California, it is illegal to inject Botox if not a medical doctor. Hopefully if this is true they can get her on at LEAST this charge.

What kills me even more is she has the NERVE to state her child WANTS these injections and ASKS for them? What a lunatic, hope they find her guilty of abuse or neglect of SOME sort. She clearly has mental issues of her own that she is harming the child as a result of.
