Ipad Mini or Kindle
I have a kindle and I love it for surfing the web, listening to music - it syncs with every CD I ever bought from amazon plus I can buy some new stuff from their store..and they kids use it from time to time to watch a movie - we have amazon prime so some stuff is free etc...
SO the kids have been asking if they can get their own this year - we have resisted until now - DD is nearly 9 and DS 5.5...the question is which should we buy?

We are going with the iPad mini for our boys. Reason being, both DH and I have iPads and iPhones and through the years, we have bought a lot of apps. If we get the kindle, we have to start from scratch. With the mini we can just link our accounts and download the apps from our accounts to theirs.

As someone who has had the Kindle Fire, the Nook Tablet, and an iPad Air, go for the iPad minis. There are a lot more app options and you can always download the nook and kindle apps, as well as Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, etc.

Yes they can take pictures on the iPad mini.
They have a kindle video app, kindle books etc. no watch movies that come with the free digital copy through kindle. I started doing that bc I have an iPad mini and a kindle so kids can watch or read the same thing on both.

The only thing I'm unsure of is the Amazon music that goes with Prime. I don't use it, so I can't really say how that would work on your iPad. But movies, TV shows, etc. through Amazon is no problem- you just need the Amazon Instant Video app.
They can also take pictures and video on the iPad.

There is an Amazon music app on the iPad so you can listen to your prime music!
