I know camp seems far away but I'm just curious...
Has anyone worked at a day camp in order for your child's tuition to be free? I'm considering it because my dd really wants to go but I already know I can't afford it. Honestly the thought of being a counselor there or running arts and crafts all day there is really not appealing lol but I do feel its worth it for her to go for free (its an amazing camp). Plus I run my own business from home which I would have to juggle if I'm there all day. I need to apply soon so I'm really torn! Has anyone done this and if so how was it?? Thanks!

I don't believe working at a camp will make it free for your dc, just reduced price. I have a few friends who do it so their kids can go to camp.

Someone on here said she drove a bus and her kid went to camp for free. So I'm sure it happens.

I have a friend who drove the bus, I am not sure if she also worked there. I think she did enjoy it and saved a bundle, not sure if it was free.

You need a CDL. I was a group leader/bus driver for one of those big Long Island camps in college and throughout my early 20's. I had to get a CDL in order to drive the mini bus- class C with passenger endorsement.

I know several people have driven buses so that the kids could go for free or at a discount. They like it. I'd rather work as a counselor and not have to transport kids. I don't have that option but that's just my opinion. If you're not interested in working with kids or being outside without air-conditioning, don't work at camp. For what we all pay we want people who are enthusiastic to be there. I was a camp counselor before kids and I think it's something you have to want to do.

I have worked at Pierce Country Day Camp in Roslyn for many, many years. My 2 kids go there for free and I get paid. Pierce is one of the few camps who pay you in addition to free tuition. It is also (I believe) one of the most expensive(and nicest!!) day camps in the country. In addition, they have 2 parties during the summer just for staff and sometimes take the staff to mets games or other events in the evenings after camp. It is an amazing place. http://piercecamps.com/
