I do not always give to established charities. Sometimes a story catches my heart.
I just sent a check for $100 to the Tarrant Police Charitable Fund which will be given to the poor hungry woman who was caught stealing five eggs - just five eggs! - from the Dollar Store last weekend in order to feed the six kids she cares for and herself in Tarrant, Alabama. The family hadn't eaten in days and lives on almost nothing a month. The rookie policeman who was called to the scene knew the woman, and knew she was destitute, so the dear, sweet man bought the eggs and gave them to her. Unknown to him, someone filmed him doing it and caught her grateful response of hugging him which went viral worldwide.
I called the Tarrant Police yesterday using a number posted in a New York newspaper and was told a fund just had been set up the day before at the People's Credit Union for her, and to make a check or money order out to the "Tarrant Police Charitable Fund" and label it for "Johnson". If anyone would like to help this woman and family in any amount, the address is:
Tarrant Police Charitable Fund 1140 Ford Avenue Tarrant, Alabama 35217
Any questions, its number is: 205-849-2811

We also find ways to give to those we know personally are in need, even when we don't have the money there are other ways to help out.

Ronald McDknald house.
We have had to stay there a few times. It is a truly wonderful resource for parents who are dealing with a sick child. I can't say enough good things about them.

Re: Favorite Charity
Birthday Wishes of Long Island. They do birthday parties with gifts, cake, etc. for children living in shelters on the Island.
Double H Ranch near Lake George. They offer free Summer Camp for children with serious illness, and winter skiing programs for children with Autism. All free of charge. It was founded by Paul Newman. Awesome place.
