gnat invasion
Is anyone experiencing this?
Holy gnats!!! They are tiny like fruit flies. We have them at the office, last week while dining at a restaurant we noticed them, and then we started seeing them in our house. (I have no fruit outside the fridge) They fly & hover right up in your face and I've seen them land on table tops. I feel itchy but don't know if they actually bite. They are a nuisance and I don't know how to get rid of them. Any suggestions?

No, but a while ago (October?) There were swarms of them in Westbury by BabiesRUs, Home Depot and all around there.

Put some apple cider vinegar in a bowl with a splash of dish soap. They are attracted to the sweetness of the vinegar and the soap breaks the surface tension so when they go to drink the drown.

Re: gnat invasion
We had this happen last year. So Gross!!
Apple cider vinegar and dish soap in small bowls, they are attracted to it and once they go in they cant get out and die. Also try to clean the kitchen with disinfectant because they can lay a lot of eggs
ETA clean out your sink drains also.

Look in plants to see if they are in the soil.
Bleach down all drains.
And like the others said bowl with vinegar and soap.
They are so annoying

Re: gnat invasion
How do you get rid of them when they are in the soil? I may have them in my classroom plants ...I think that's where they are coming from after reading this.

I read that happens when you over water the plants

Re: gnat invasion
I'm going to do a major cleanup tomorrow and try the vinegar/soap concoction. I haven't noticed them coming from the drains (I even tried to put tape on top of drains to monitor)
They are SO annoying and gross. I just thought it was some kind of infestation in the area b/c I have noticed them in multiple places. And prior to 3months ago I never saw them. I was thinking perhaps it had something to do with the climate change/humidity/unseasonably low temps. I wanted to know if anyone else has noticed/experienced this.
Thank you for your help.

Re: gnat invasion
I have some too. very annoying. I think we got over the summer and I just can't get rid of them( probably because of my daughter"s guinea pigs) I usually use a teaspoon or two of sugar in a bowl then add a few drops of liquid dish soap. I generally catch a lot with this.

Re: gnat invasion
After a day of cleaning...I think I found the source.
It was the soil in the window planter. I had bought new potting soil from HD about a month or so ago. I refilled the planter with the soil. And now that I think back it seems the frameframe of when this started was soon after that. And then got progressively worse.
I shined a flashlight into it & lots of these bugger were flitting around. Then I checked the bag (I had stored the unused soil) and sure enough they were in there also.I also noticed some egg looking things but can't be sure if they were hatching or just part of the fertilizer.
I'm still noticing some around but FAR FEWER then we've seen over the last couple of nights. I am hopeful that this will resolve the problem.
Thank you all for your help!!!
