Italian in Manhattan- another question

I want to take my husband to a nice dinner for his birthday. He loves Italian food. Can anyone recommend a place that is good but will not break the bank? I was thinking il Mulino on the upper east side but I wasn't sure of the price. Is Roslyn cheaper?

Any suggestions would be great!

A friend suggested Parm on the UWS. Has anyone eaten in the downtown one?

Thanks

Frankie's 570
I have been to Frankie's 570 a few times & really enjoyed it.

La Zie was recommended to me recently, what we went in a different direction instead, so I haven't tried it yet, but it supposedly has the best meatballs in NYC. Chat Icon

I've never been to Il Mulino

In Soho, Osteria Morini is incredible. Amazing homemade pastas.
Small though.

Lavagna in the east village is amazing. Ninos 46 in the theatre district is also very yummy. Both places are very reasonable.

I like Cara Mia on 9th between 45th/46th
It's more of a local place - very small inside, all exposed brick - fabulous, fresh food!

I honestly don't care for il Mulino been twice and disappointed both times not what worth the $$, imo. I'd head to Babbo instead, you're gauranteed a great meal and experience. Etcetera etcetera is very good too.

I've not been, but John's on 12th street was featured on an episode of diners, drive-ins, and dives for their veal meatballs and I've been dying to go ever since!

Has anyone been?
