Little Village EI

Hi! For those of you with children in little village EI- I was just wondering if your teacher writes in the communication book to let you know how your child is doing, what activities they did during the day, etc. my daughter just started the half day program 2 weeks ago and the teacher wrote in her book each day last week and this week hasn't written anything. I'm not happy about that because this is not supposed to be daycare but therapeutic and I really feel like she should let me know what is going on. Any thoughts or experiences anyone would like to share? Thanks!

My son is in Little Village EI. Sometimes there are days that go by where nothing will be written in the notebook. If I have a question I will write it and ask. I do like that there is parent training once a month at least, where the teacher will tell us what DS has been up to and she even shows us videos on her phone of DS in the classroom.

But I feel you, sometimes just having that notebook to communicate in can be frustrating.

Re: Little Village EI

My DD has been in therapeutic preschool since 2 years old. We have a notebook, but only write in it when there is something to say. The way I feel, I'd rather the teacher spend her time teaching than writing in every student's book each day. DD is now in K, and goes to Masera Learning Center. She has a notebook to write notes in, but also has a "workbook", with all the different activities, and each day, the teacher just circles which activities/tasks they did that day. So at least I know what she's up to, but it can be real quick for the teacher. Maybe Little Village has, or can institute something like that? If you'd like, I can send you a picture of what DD's looks like.

Thanks for the info. I spoke to her teacher yesterday and asked if she can try to jot down a couple of activities she does while at school so I can try to start a conversation with my dtr (even though I do all of the talking...lol). I understand if she can't write in the book everyday but a few days/wk would be nice. I just don't think it's right to have a child in an EI program and the parent has absolutely no idea what the child has done all week.

Re: Little Village EI

You are absolutely right. A teacher should always communicate with the parents especially when the child can not. It's helps bridge the collaboration. I am so very blessed that my daughter has a teacher who writes to me daily, and she is in first grade. It's amazing what a few sentences can provide. It eases the tension between both parent/teacher. When I taught in NYC I was able to communicate with parents at dismissal. We were able to build strong rapport that way. If children are taking a bus it's so much harder, unless there is some form of communication.

The teachers never write enough. I am the therapist at home and its like pulling teeth to get the teachers to communicate with me....i know they're busy but c'mon!

Definitely speak up about it! Good luck!
