Re: Anyone Get Pregnant At Age 40+
Well, I was 39 1/2 when I got pregnant with #2 and had him at 40.
1) Did it take long to conceive? I feel very lucky that, as with my 1st (at 35) we were able to get PG pretty quickly. With #2 we were trying halfheartedly to gender sway so we tried for 2 months w/o getting PG and then the third we just kind of said close enough and ended up PG.
2) Did you have any complications during pregnancy? The pregnancy was just like number one and fairly easy. At the anatomy scan, they said his one kidney looked slightly enlarged. That was the only issue at all and we just got more sonograms to keep an eye on it and by the time he was born, there was no issue. Oh, and he was breech - but so was DS#1
3) Was the baby born healthy? Yes.
Posted by Hofstra26 I'm so nervous to try, I feel like it's so much more stress now that I'm basically 40. I'm wondering if maybe I should just stick with two and count my blessings.
We said this about number two - we were afraid to push our luck. But can't imagine not having him now.

Re: Anyone Get Pregnant At Age 40+
I had my DD at 34 and my DS at 37...got pregnant with my 3rd at 39 and that ended up in a miscarriage...then I had two more miscarriages when I turned 40. I was a poster child for getting pregnant easily and kids born healthy but then whammo at 39 it all went south I am now 43 and we have not tried to get pregnant since I was 41 as after three miscarriages I just couldn't do it again...the moral of this long story is that if you are feeling it then do it because you will never lose the feeling. I still ache for that 3rd child that I will never have so it never left me. One other thing the last two pregnancies were tested and they were chromosonal issues that caused the miscarriages.
Lots of luck to you

Re: Anyone Get Pregnant At Age 40+
Age is a very important number.
To clear things up, you have a higher chance of miscarriage with older eggs due to improper egg division:
http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/down-syndrome/basics/risk-factors/con-20020948
or:
http://americanpregnancy.org/birth-defects/down-syndrome/
That being said, people are different... and there are those who go through menopause at 35 & those who have a kid naturally in their 40s. BUT 20 does not equal 30 doesn't equal 40.
Either way, there is a ton of diagnostic medical tests to see if you are having a healthy pregnancy.
Good luck to OP!

Stories like this always amaze me too because this obviously was many years ago, before all the medical technology we have now, testing, etc. It really goes to show you that if it's meant to be, it's meant to be.

Anyone Get Pregnant At Age 40+
I read through all the posts and I happen to agree. I am pregnant with my 3rd and I will be 35 when I deliver. I too worried about pushing my luck b.c I already have two healthy kids, one girl and one boy. I just had to keep positive and pray. So far, so good. IMO, I think you should go for it. Just keep throwing caution to the wind, even after the day you turn 40. maybe for the next few months... good luck!! it's funny, I look at the Duggars and think , that woman had 19 kids and all are healthy, here I am worried that the 3rd child will somehow push my luck. Another child, especially if you can afford it, is a blessing. I haven't met or heard from one person that regretted having another. It is a lot to juggle but isn't everything?

You're so right about the 19 kids thing. lol I never thought about it that way.
And I agree, I don't think anyone would wish they didn't have that last child. A child is a blessing.........always.

Anyone Get Pregnant At Age 40+
Not me personally but I have a friend who did. It's just a guideline they use that age as things tend to be higher risk but it's not as though you wake up on your 40th birthday and all of a sudden it's a bad idea. If you have a good doctor and good prenatal care you can have a very healthy pregnancy. There are always risks at any age so I would not let that stop you if you really want a 3rd

Re: Anyone Get Pregnant At Age 40+
I had both my kids after 40. (Eeks hard to see that)I had GD both times but otherwise healthy pregnancies full term. They were so comfortable i had to have csections. But yes you can do it, does it happen naturally for some Yes, but it gets much harder. We had to do ivf (3 years trying) but what I tell my friends that are trying and wish someone said this to me. "Of course the natural way is preferred, it doesn't matter if your journey is with help (IUI or IVF) or by chance if the end result is a baby. Intervention is the new normal." Good luck
