Connecting with other FTWM?

Hey moms! I posted a similar question a while ago, but I am still stuck in the same rut! I work 5 days a week and I just feel so lonely sometimes. I find it hard to meet new people, I am still relatively new to our area. Although I am a FTWM, I would like to squeeze in some more social time with. Many of my close girlfriends live OOS and and my friends on LI, have made new relationships since their kids are older than mine. I think they met other moms at school, but I plan to hire a nanny to pick up/drop off. :(

Does anyone do Meet Up? Is there anything else like Meet Up I could try?

Any play groups or children's classes somewhat close to Old Bethpage/Plainview that you could reccommend?

Thanks ladies.Chat Icon

I feel the same way. I go to library classes with DS on Saturdays. There are a lot of moms there, but I feel like I'm bad at making friends. If you're good at making friends, you could definitely meet some people there!

I definitely recommend meetup. Also don't count someone out as being a friend just because they stay at home

Re: Connecting with other FTWM?

It's tough in the winter.

In the summer, I see lots of moms walking around in the park with their kids (esp evenings and weekends). I smile, say "hi" and chat with whoever I see. Some bite & others couldn't care less.

I met one of our closest friends in the neighborhood at a restaurant. I used to be her husband's co-worker. My DH really gets along with her hubby. We get together all the time (another working mom).

Three of our neighbors are stay at homes & we all get together every once in a while. We put an email list of us together & do events every so often. Usually the same 4 go & 4 others do not. The real difficulty is putting in the effort to get together. We usually do Fridays (so that I can preserve family time on the weekends).

Connecting with other FTWM?

I would LOVE to do a meet up with other FTWM. Maybe on a Friday night or Sunday afternoon. It is so hard to do all the mommy and me classes because they really don't cater to a FTWM schedule.

Meetup.com. It's a website that has a ton of groups for specific interests. It's a great way to meet people with similar interests.

Connecting with other FTWM?

I am a FTWM and I have tried looking into meetups and they are all either too late during the week since my 10.5 month old is in bed between 7-8pm or they are for SAHM's. I just joined a baby and me class that is on saturdays at the Farmingdale wellness center...its at 12:30 pm and its only $30 per month which is more reasonable than gymboree which is $109. If anyone wants to do a meetup I am down too.

Re: Connecting with other FTWM?

Once the kids got to 2/3 and started birthday parties w/ the daycare crew, I became friendly w/ the parents -

For my second son, one of the mom's recently started a FB group - that has been great too.

Re: Connecting with other FTWM?

Not sure where on the Island you're located, but the Mothers' Center has a couple of local chapters with some great discussion groups. The one at the RVC library, you can bring your kids with you while you talk to other moms, and the other centers have an actual childcare facility in the center, so you can go talk to other mama's in the next room.

FM me for more info, I'd be happy to share. In fact, they have a Work/Life balance group coming up in the evening too. Great organization!

Re: Connecting with other FTWM?

We mostly hang out with friends we made from preschool. They live close to us, our kids are friends and it is just easy.

When we first moved to the DC area, I joined MOMS Club as well as a few meet up groups. I made a handful of friends from meet up but we don't see one another as often as they are a little further away. My kids have aged out of the playgroups so we don't do those anymore.

One meet up/mom's group I am in is very active with multiple events per day. They have morning, afternoon and weekend play dates and outings as well as moms only coffee and dinners. They even did an overnight spa weekend last weekend. I used to be very active in this group. It is nice to have so many options for things to do with the kids.

eta: I have never made a friend from the playground or miscellaneous class. Sure, I've made small talk but it is just that - playground chit chat.
