Re: Taking two weeks vacation
I had to take 2 weeks off, per Federal Reserve rules. DH consistently takes 2 weeks off twice a year, never has had an issue. He would take it anyway TBH.
I find it worse when coworkers take Friday's off 10 weeks in a row

Re: Taking two weeks vacation
I take two consecutive weeks every July. The rest of my time is broken up into days and a week here and there.
The company handbook has no specific mention of how many days one can take at one time, other than "While every reasonable effort will be made to honor vacation requests, business requirements may necessitate adjustments."
I have never been turned down for a two week vacation request, and I give plenty of notice whenever I will be out.

Thanks all. I just want to clarify, I don't think taking 2 weeks off is a problem. I think taking 3 two week vacations in a year is excessive, especially as a department supervisor.
If she has the time and it is not disrupting work then she has the right to use the days as she wants and in what order. Provided of course the company allows it. I don't think her role should come into play.
We are also allowed to use more than 2 weeks at a time if the hours are there to use.

Taking two weeks vacation
When I was working, for a large investment bank, they strongly suggested that managers and above take at least 2 weeks at time once a year. Before I was a manager, I took off 4 weeks for my wedding and occasionally took 2 weeks together. There were certain times of the year though that any vacations were frowned upon and I did have to cancel a few vacations because of issues that came up from work. I also got flown home from a vacation because of an issue that arose that I needed to take care of.

If she has the time, then why not? If she does get 6 week vacation time, would it be better if there were one big two-week vacation and 4 one-week vacations?
I agree. I'd take that much vacation if it was offered! DH gets about 5 weeks a year and we've taken 3.5 week trips before. As long as it's not against company policy, I think it's awesome.

Re: Taking two weeks vacation
People at my job take 2-week vacations all the time... one of the top supervisors takes a whole month off every year, plus other time off. I think if you have the time accrued, it's nobody's business how you use it & I'd be pissed if I got denied vacation time for that reason.

Re: Taking two weeks vacation
I would be allowed to take the 2 weeks, possibly 3. They really don't say anything. BUT, I would never take that kind of time off because the insurmountable mountain of work I would come back to would not be worth it.

Taking two weeks vacation
I don't get the backlash on these things. It's your time off, it's part of your benefit package in a way...
Not directed at anyone here... Just sad how America is.. Work work work and sacrifice .. Less family time ... Then you can't even take the vacation days you earned.

One of his friends takes 5 weeks straight. His wife is a teacher and then they both have off together in the summer

Re: Taking two weeks vacation
We can but it needs a few steps of approval bc it is disruptive. We normally only allow (and people only ask) for things like honeymoons.

My company too. We get a LOT of vacation, but taking two weeks in a row is kind of frowned upon. The only time I've seen it done is for honeymoons. I would never do it because I'd fall so far behind that it wouldn't even be worth it.

Taking two weeks vacation
no one at my job ever has. it would be really frowned upon. as it is, we are limited to taking two (seperate) weeks only from may to september, and now we got a memo today that we may only be allowed one week in the summer. and it could never be consecutive.

Taking two weeks vacation
Our handbook does't say anything about amount of time we can take.
I got a VERY hard time when I tried to take 3 weeks off for my wedding/honeymoon. They only wanted to give me 2 I settled for 2 and a half. I NEVER take time off....and I'm constantly maxing out. It's ridiculous.
Now, I have so much work that even taking a day sets me back a week work wise. It's awful.

I just wanted to chime in and say that it makes me sad that we live in a place where you feel like you can't/shouldn't use your time off.

Re: Taking two weeks vacation
My company gives all employees 20-30 PTO (paid time off) days to use however they wish, so technically we can use 3 or 4 weeks all at once but at my firm, my managers wouldn't be too happy about approving a 3 week vacation unless its something rare (destination wedding, etc). 2 week vacations are allowed w/ no problems although very few attorneys take them because the workload piles up quickly.
The last time I took 2 whole weeks off in a row was for my wedding in 2010. Since then I usually only do 5 days off every couple of months with a few Fridays off scattered here and there.

Agreed. Some people do it but they're either the slackers who somehow get away with it, or it's the person's wedding.
I WISH we could because it's our days, we should do what we want.
