Fetal cardiovascular ultrasound
Anyone have any experience with this? I have to go in less than 2 weeks to check on the baby's heart after the abnormal NT scan. Update : so I spoke to the office and they there is no special name for this test. It just an ultra sound that takes a special look at the baby's heart.

Re: Fetal cardiovascular ultrasound
I'm not sure if this is the same as the fetal echocardiogram, but if it is I had it and its not too bad. Its just a long sonogram to take a better look at the baby's heart. Good luck!!

I'm scheduled for one of these tomorrow. I wasn't sure if it was the same as what the OP was asking either.....

Honestly, I'm not sure either. Just going by what was recommended in the nt scan report.

Re: Fetal cardiovascular ultrasound
Should be the same thing.
ETA: I almost went through the same thing. My blood tests came out abnormal for my first pregnancy.
My Doc is a high risk & did lots of US prior to second blood work (which was normal). He said I'd go for cardiac echo if even a question: he was able to see normal heart anatomy though.
Good luck!

Re: Fetal cardiovascular ultrasound
DH has a heart defect from birth. We were told we should get another ultrasound done at a pediatric cardiologist after 20 weeks I believe it was...might have been at 22 weeks.
DH actually still sees his pediatric cardiologist for his checkups every 2 years. He called and scheduled the appointment. We went in on the day the ultrasound tech was in there. The dr just watched the screen as him and DH chatted away. I can recommend the pediatric cardiologist if you would like to use him. PM me if you would like :) Great guy!!!!

Re: Fetal cardiovascular ultrasound
I have to get one in 2 weeks when I will be 24 weeks pregnant. Nothing abnormal on the NT or 20 week scan for me but apparently they do this if you conceive through IVF because there is a higher risk for heart defects. Good luck to you!!!!

He did sono of heart in his office (he's very good at sono & has a quality machine).
I would have gone to a cardiologist for official echo if follow up tests or prelim sono was abnormal.
It was a scary time.

It was a scary time. . Thanks for sharing your experience, I believe that is the same test I am scheduled for in a week and a half. This might sound dumb, but I've got zero experience with this : was it a like a regular ultrasound or did they so something special ?

Re: Fetal cardiovascular ultrasound
The one I had was like a regular ultrasound, but with a "better" machine. My doc had different ones in different rooms. One does 3D as well. He was able to tell me about 4 chambers, normal outflow, no large defects.
If the cardiologist does it, it's probably a better machine but with a doc who specializes in heart defects reading it, so they get specific views of the heart. Thank goodness, I never got to that point.
I know it's hard, but don't forget that the NT is an old test.
Hoping it's all overkill for you!

Re: Fetal cardiovascular ultrasound
I went for one when I was pregnant. Its is a peditric cardiologist with a very hi tech ultra sound machine. I went to Madonna perinatal for mine and the guy was super nice. All was fine and he talked me through the whole thing and told me what we were looking at and what they were looking for. Prayers that it will all be fine!

Re: Fetal cardiovascular ultrasound
I just had mine done on Friday. It's very much like a regular sono. They just focus on the heart/blood flow. They use colors to detect the blood flow and measure using a Doppler. It's about an hr long test. Mine was 2 since I'm having twins. Good luck. Just remember to think positive. Try to keep yourself calm and take it day by day.

Fetal cardiovascular ultrasound
I went for 4 of these while pregnant w DD2 after they saw abnormal bloodflow through her heart at the 20 week scan. It was very easy, albeit at least an hour each time. I went to a ped cardiologist near Winthrop.
