Parent training

One of my sons (3yr) is getting OT & has some behavior issues (mainly hitting) so we are working with social worker 2x/week at school. Typical school. He is NOT on spectrum.

The school dist thru is ISP suggested I also get parent training for 1/2 hr each week. I have started this but many questions revolve around me & my personal life. The SW says she doesn't want to pry & this all effects how things are at home.
She says everything is connected.

Can anyone explain this to me? Is anyone else dealing with this?

I get parent training once a month for an hour but it's all on DS and how he's doing at school and what we could be doing at home to help reinforce what they are doing in school. Nothing personal about me whatsoever.

We had parent training a couple of years ago (when my DS was in preschool), and it all centered around how he was behaving in school and what we could do at home to work on these behaviors. The parent trainer did ask how he was behaving at home, and what would trigger the behaviors, but there was never any talk about our personal life during any of our sessions.

I had the exact opposite. Parent Training is suppose to be to help you with issues at home not at school. The two could be melded if the behaviors are shown at both. A parent trainer should be focused on the home or out in the community primarily. We have always been asked about our home life. I'm not sure what you consider too personal, but we were asked about deaths in the family, living arrangements, change in work schedules, etc. Any of that can effect the behavior in a child and the trainer knowing as much as possible can only help.

we get parent training now. We focus solely on what goes on in the home. DS is completely different at school and at home. His school teacher does the parent training, so she sees how very different he is. So much of what goes on in our lives affects the way we parent, even if we don't realize it. I think whoever is doing the training should have a complete picture.
