Low sperm count and mobility advice needed
A little background. We did two unsuccessfull IUI's, 1 fresh and 2 frozen IVF cycles. I have twin girls from the last frozen cycle.
We are going to start trying again. We are dealing with male factor. Last time my husband had a sperm count of 1 million and I am not even sure now of the mobility. Before we officially start again he went to his urologist and had sperm analysis done. The results came back and the count is 4 million and mobility is 39%. His urologist last time said we should move on from IUI's because with his low count it was really not going to work and if it did he would be shocked. That is why we went to IVF after just two IUI's. He is waiting to speak to his doctor about what he thinks this time. Does anyone have any insight on this or advice? To me I would like to skip IUI's and go right to IVF if that is what we have to do. Why go through the heartache with failed IUI's when the chance is low. I am not sure how much of a change 1 million to 4 million could be.

Re: Low sperm count and mobility advice needed
I am in almost the exact same boat....except I had triplets from ivf :) do you know if those numbers are the post wash totals or the true totals? If those are the post wash numbers I would maybe try an iui or three only if iui is covered and ivf is not (as in my case). If those are his total sperm counts pre wash I would not bother with iui at all. Similarly if ivf is covered I would not nother with iui. If neither is covered, I would aLso not bother with iui. Hope that makes sense!

I am in the boat also. DH has been seeing a urologist and his count has gone up. I am just wondering if I could deal with the heartache from an IUI with the chance being low. We have one DD from a FET after many attempts!

I know when we went the sperm counts kept changing. He got two done. One was 3 mill one was 1 mill and I wanted to try iui being that this was the first time and I was hopeful. But after 3 failed iui's and the last SA coming back just under a million we went ivf and I just got my first bfp. This is what happened but if I knew it would end up ivf or had been through it already I may have just went ivf first

Thank you all for your responses. My husband is happy that it was 3 million and not realizing that 3 million is not much more to work with when it comes to IUI. The 3 million count is pre-wash so who knows what would happen after the wash. We went for an IUI once that didn't happen because post wash it was so little that they said they couldn't do an IUI. He knows how devastated I was after every negative test but wants to have hope we can get pregnant on our own or an IUI. Sometimes I feel like he doesn't realize that my body gets put through so much even with an IUI that it would just be easier to go to IVF. Luckily my insurance covers everything and we only have to pay co-pays for the medicine. I want another baby but really do not want to try on our own or an IUI. My husband is going to talk to his doctor I hope today and I hope the doctor tells him that we should just go to IVF and not try IUI's.
