Another grievance question...if you grieved your taxes

The taxes for the house we are buying are currently being grieved by the estate. I don't believe they were ever grieved before and from my search on mynassauproperty they seem to be like $2-3K higher than the taxes on same size properties in the neighborhood.

Obviously we have to pay the full amount of taxes until the grievance comes through but I was wondering if you grieved how long until you had an answer and did you win?

Re: Another grievance question...if you grieved your taxes

i bought my house december 2013. The previous owners started the grievance in October 2013. They used Fred Perry. I was just notified last month that we won the grievance. so it took over a year. I still haven't seen it reflect in my taxes yet.

I just grieved online myself for 2016/17 tax year.

In Nassau County, they try to resolve them by the finalization of the next year's assessment.

The 2015/16 assessment roll is becoming final on 4/1. They are trying to resolve all 2015/16 grievances by that date.

We started the grieving process in 2010 and just finalized it last year with Mark Lewis. We saved a entire $300 a year.Chat Icon

It may take a while for them to notify you. Do you know what year was being grieved by the estate? If it is the 2015/16 tax year, by the time the tax bills are issued (the school tax bill comes out 10/1/15 - and the general 1/1/16), you will be paying on the reduced assessment.

The taxes you are paying now are actually the 2014/15 taxes.

I grieve them myself each year. I usually get a letter from the assessment review commission months later... I think it was over the summer, for the grievance that I filed in January.
