School lookup?

Is there a website that I can put in an address and see which elementary, middle, and high schools would be attended? I see "nearby schools" on zillow, but it shows more than just the schools that apply to that house.

School lookup?

I think GreatSchools has a way to see school zoning on a map. If you know the district but not the specific school, call the district office with the address and they can look it up for you.

Re: School lookup?

You can find out the school district, obviously, and if there's only one high school per district, it's easy to figure that out.

But it's harder to figure out if there are multiple schools per district, as there almost always is with elementary schools. For example, in my elementary school district (N. Bellmore), there are 5 elementary schools. I pretty much know what areas are zoned for which, but I always advise people to call the school district to check because zoning lines can change for schools.

Also, some districts have discretion to put you in an elementary school that is not necessarily the closest one. In our neighboring district, N. Merrick, you can be assigned a school that is not the closest to your home because they need to "balance out" the population in each school.

Most districts don't publish or provide a map of their elementary school zones, but a few do. I've sold homes in West Islip and I believe the school district website there allows you to look up what elementary school a house is zoned for.

If you have to call the district, usually the transportation office is most helpful - - if you give them the address, they'll tell you the current schools the house is zoned for (I do this often when I take a new listing, just to confirm).
