Those who had their dogs since..
... the dogs were babies how did u handle that and work? How did u train them while u were at work?

Fortunately I was in between jobs, so I was able to stay home with him for a few weeks. After that, I would drop him off with my Grandma and Aunt on my way to work, and pick him up after. My aunt is great with dogs, and she did a great job training him during the day.
I would love to get another dog soon, but I would never be able to juggle a puppy, and working. It's soooo hard to train a puppy if you're gone for 8+ hours a day.

I took off for a couple of days to help them get used to their surroundings & to train them where to go potty. They were on the pee pads for a bit, and then I would gradually get them outside.

I took a week off to really do hard core training which included taking him outside literally every 20 minutes and praising him like crazy when he would do his business outside. After that week he was 80% trained and then I needed a neighbor to come in the middle of the day to walk him and feed him. I couldnt have done it without that neighbor's help.

I got them inbetween jobs.
I waited until i felt tehy were old enough before i started working again.
this is not a likely situation of course though

I got him around Christmas/New Years and was able to be home with him for the 1st two weeks he got here. I only work in the city 3 days a week and when I did my SIL came by those days for about 2 months to feed/clean/play with him.
By the time I was back at work he was fine and now stays by himself no problem.

DH and i took off about 2 weeks when we first got her and i was able to come home at lunch every day for the first few months.

We crated our dog while we were gone. Plus my MIL lives down the hall from us - so she would check on him during the day.

We were fortunate at the time.
We got Cha-Chi when he was 2 months old, at the time my DH was living downstairs from his parents so his dad did all the work as far as training and looking after him while we were at work.

We crated ours too, for their safety as well as the safety of our stuff The 1st was a little bit of a challenge because even though I had several puppies throughout my life; my Mom was always there to pick up the slack. The first year was definitely the hardest. The 2nd learned soo much faster than the 1st what was expected, how to go potty, play, etc. I guess she learned from example from her big sister They are about three years apart in age.

I got Gizmo the summer before 6th grade
So I trained him during my summer vacation.
