Just a little update on me!
I haven't been posting much recently but I do still browse the boards and post when I can!
After 7 years of being a SAHM (A title I wouldn't have traded for anything in the world), I decided to gain my prerequisites to pursue becoming an RN. It's a year and a half later, and I'm in my second semester of nursing school!! It's amazing, and I am truly blessed with this opportunity. This time next year I'll be a few months away from having my RN license. I have absolutely loved and have appreciated every minute being home with my 3 boys, and this career will allow me flexibility to still be around during most days. That was really important to me. We have sacrificed $$ of course in order for me to be home but I can't imagine having done it any other way.
I know there were lots of moms asking about careers that allow the best of both worlds and I truly feel this is something ideal. I've always wanted to pursue nursing but was so scared to do it. My only regret is not taking some of the science courses earlier and knocked out 3 credits here and there....but I still did it!
If anyone ever has questions on going back to school after kids let me know, especially if you're interested in nursing! I'd be happy to help.
Hope you are all well and enjoying your families!!!

Re: Just a little update on me!
I am a nurse in a hospital and work full time 3 12 hour days but really it turns into 13 hours and have a 19 month old ds. I am currently pregnant with ds2 and will be due in may. I will be going down to part time 2 days a week. Honestly, the career itself is very flexible. You can work 12 hour shifts, 8 hour shifts, am, pm, overnights. It really does work with having a family. Good luck! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Just a little update on me!
Congrats and good luck!! It really is a great career for a working mom, the flexibility is amazing. After having my daughter I dropped down to part-time, which was two nights a week and my husband was home at night. And it is also pretty good money and great benefits :)

Just a little update on me!
Always interested in this field. How do you work full time while doing clinicals? That's always been my fear. How does this work? I couldn't not work.

Re: Just a little update on me!
congratulations! I know how hard it is to go back to being a student as an adult. My sister did it but says it was so worth it and she's so proud of her accomplishments.

I personally don't work..school is full time for 2 years so I do only that. BUT I'm in a hybrid program which is nights/weekends/online. A bunch of my classmates work full time BUT the school recommends no more than 20 hours/week of work. The people that work 40 hours plus do full time school are really stressed. It's possible but not practical if that makes sense. The demands of school are a lot...exams, papers, group projects, homeworks then weekend clinicals (sat/sun 7am-4pm). My clinical today was canceled due to storm approaching so I'm going to enjoy the sunday off with my family!! It's a godsend today cause yesterday wiped me out!!

Re: Just a little update on me!
My clinicals were once a week. An 8 hour day. I did work full-time at that time but I didn't have kids then. I work evenings so I was able to make it work since the clinical rotations were during the day (7a-3p) It was tough but I was able to do it.
Now I have 2 kids and I'm about to go back to work part-time after staying at home with my kids for the past 2 years. Nursing really does offer a lot of flexibility. My husband works rotating shifts so I was able to get a per diem position where I can make my own schedule around his since its constantly changing. Otherwise I would either have to get a babysitter/daycare or I wouldn't be able to work.
