Compromising on House choice?
How do you decide what to compromise on? I found a couple places- one I can have the house I want in a location I don't like. The other is in a better area, but less property and not the house I want (nice, but not my taste and not the best layout). I really don't want either, but I want to move and I hate house hunting.

Compromising on House choice?
House hunting can be so frustrating. For us we didn't compromise on the house or the location. Those are IMO the two most important things to look at when buying a home.
I would keep looking as frustrating as it may be. The spring market is right around the corner and I'm sure more inventory will come up.

This. You might hate house hunting and be miserable now but at least it is temporary. Moving into a location you don't like or a home with a bad layout that you don't love will be a lot more miserable because until you decide to sell and move again you are stuck dealing with it. Don't be short sighted.

Compromising on House choice?
I would never buy a house in a location I didn't care for. I MIGHT buy a house in a location I liked but didn't love the layout etc. if I could envision making it more to my liking (and had the resources to do so). If I really really didn't like the house in the better location, I would keep looking.
We had certain non-negotiables (garage, basement, no high ranches, decent size back yard) and things we would have preferred (gas heat/hot water; no forced air heat; house that didn't need a lot of work). We bought a house with oil heat (but have now converted to gas); forced air heat - not going to change that) and we had to do a TON of work - but we got a layout that works for us, big back yard and have done a whole lot of work to make it more what we wanted (but certainly not done yet lol!).
You just really have to decide what you can live with, what work you are willing to do/can be done to a particular house to make it more in line with what you want, and what will really make you unhappy and is not changeable - and then stay away from that

Compromising on House choice?
We didn't compromise on the stuff we couldn't change, like layout. We bent a little on location (the house we bought is a little further north than we thought we wanted) but the location still works for us. But we compromised on buying a house that was less "done" than what we wanted. We'll make it pretty... someday lol.
This is a huge purchase, so don't buy something out of frustration or a desire to be done. Your house is out there!!

Keep looking, you'll find something that's right for you in both those areas. I wouldn't suffer with something I wasn't crazy about. Its a huge investment so you want to make the right choice. Also I believe "Location, location, LOCATION!"

Re: Compromising on House choice?
In your case I would not settle for either of these choices. I'd say go for location because you can always eventually change your home, but you can't change property size.
It sucks, but I'd keep looking.

Re: Compromising on House choice?
Can you expand your search area? Sometimes if we're focused on one particular town or school district, it's very limiting.
