If you're familiar with south Florida....
My parents are thinking if buying a second home in Florida. My aunt and uncle live in West Palm, a bunch of my moms friends live in Boca Raton. Ideally they would like something kind of in between, though my dad would probably lean more to being in West Palm with his brother. They want a minimum of 3 bedrooms, private pool, in a community, under $300k. Any suggestions?

They are pretty close to one another. I prefer the PAlm Beach area.

West Boynton Beach or West Lake Worth is probably a good in-between spot. They should concentrate on the 55+ communities because the houses are typically cheaper and there are tons of social activities built in. There is every price range imaginable from budget to luxury.

We used to rent in this community! It has amazing amenities. It is actually in Palm Beach Gardens though, which is north of West Palm Beach. It takes me about 40 minutes to get to Boca from here, so might be a bit far for them.

My MIL lives in an older 55 community right in Century village called cypress lakes in WPB. There are a ton of communities in WPB like someone else said, every price range. My BIL and SIL lived in lake worth, but moved to Wellington several years ago. They live in a community called village walk, it has stores, a gas station and all the amenities behind the gate. They bought the house new, it was built like crap, it's falling apart already. I liked lake worth better. My other BIL lives in pompano beach, seems like there's a lot of new construction in that area.

I don't know if a 55+ community will work. They will live predominantly in NY and probably go down a few times a year for 2 weeks at a time. DH and I would provably go down with our kids a lot too. I may even stay for a few weeks during summer. I don't know if the "active adults" will enjoy my kids.

My Aunt is in Port St. Lucie- I love where she is because its an awesome jumping off spot- about 2-3 hours to Orlando, Miami, etc. Plus its a nice community.
The big realtor in the West Palm Beach is Hoyt C. Murphy- I'd go there first when looking to move

Re: If you're familiar with south Florida....
I have a house in Palm Beach Gardens. It's very nice here, but it's not cheap. Prices have gone up quite a bit in the last two years. Plus a lot of the gated communities inside PBG require some form of membership and equity. The ones that don't have a premium on the house prices.
I would look in the Gardens and possibly Jupiter and Abacoa. West Palm is OK and has some nice parts but there are a lot of sketchy areas that surround many parts of south Florida including West Palm and even Wellington so you definitely want to do your research. I found with the Gardens you have to drive some to get to the crap so there is a bit of a buffer.

My parents are in sebastian and they love it. It's not a crazy over populated area also it's a lot of state land so a lot of it can't be built on. They are 15 mins from the beach and it's beautiful. They are in a development but it's not a 55 or older or anything. It's really a nice area

Delray Beach is very nice... My mom goes those there for about two months every winter. It's not an overly old crowd (she is 60 years old but likes to have a good time). I like Palm Beach except sometimes i feel like it is too sleepy for my taste. Great thing about Delray is the location- close to lots of areas
