Formula suggestions
My 7 week old grunts and screams when he farts or poops. He is mostly breastfed but gets one or two bottles of formula a day. We give him a generic version of similac sensitive. I was thinking of trying a different formula to see if he would feel better. Any suggestions from those who also had gassy babies? I've cut out dairy and eat a very bland diet so I don't think my milk is the problem. Thanks.

I would try alimentum ready to feed, not the powder.

The dairy protein casein is usually the culprit and there are hidden forms of it a lot of food. You may want to make sure the hidden dairy is cut from your diet as well. And if all traces of dairy are cut, they usually make you start with wheat or gluten or even juice like oj... When my dd got like that, I ended up after many changes and combos finding Alimentum ready to feed was the best thing for her. I also tried gas drops initially but eventually stopped once on alimentum.
And i personally stopped breastfeeding once she was on alimentum because i couldnt handle all the diet restrictions. And i wanted to make sure i saw a difference. Within a few days a noticed changes and after 1 week i had a brand new baby.

Re: Formula suggestions
We use Gerber Soothe. It's made with 100% whey protein, so it's easier to digest. It was very highly recommended to me by my ped for my gassy baby. He described it as kind of a step between traditional "sensitive" formulas and hypoallergenic ones. It definitely helps, but honestly at 7 weeks, grunting and crying while pooping sounds normal to me. Their digestive systems are still maturing until 3-4 months. Good luck!

That all sounds normal at 7 weeks. My son was like that too but grew out of it. Similiac sensitive didn't work for us. He's been on gerber good start since that time. He is 9 months now. It is made from whey so the milk protein is already partially broken down and it is easier to digest.

This is what we had switched DS to and he was a lot better. In fact this time around if the baby is gassy i'm probably going to cut to this right away.
It is expensive but some insurance companies will cover it with a note from your doctor. Mine wouldn't cover all of it, but half which helped so it ended up costing me the same as regular formula
