Hospital Tour Tonight!- Update!!!
So I'm going to tour the LIJ Katz Ctr tonight and was wondering what sort of questions I should ask or if there's anything in particular I should pay attention to...TIA!
UPDATE:
I went with a list of about 30 questions. I'm a little crazy. I posted a little summary of the tour at the bottom. Enjoy

Hospital Tour Tonight!
Definitely report back about it! I took the Lamaze/Birth Prep class there this past Saturday -- we got a tour of the mother/baby recovery rooms on the 5th and 6th floor (where you'll be when visitors come) but couldn't tour labor & delivery or any of the OR rooms because apparently the units were bursting with mom's in labor!

Re: Hospital Tour Tonight!
Ok first off, let me just say that the Katz center is GORGEOUS!! Everything seemed really clean and when people tell you its like a hotel, they're not kidding. Its pretty amazing actually.
Ok so here's my take away from the tour- WARNING- ITS LONG!!!
We couldn't tour L&D either because obviously they're busy there with moms having babies. TBH, I'm glad because I know if I'm in labor, I wouldn't want a whole tour group walking through checking out my room.
There's 14 L&D rooms in total on the 3rd floor- 2 of which have bath tubs you can labor in if you're doc gives the ok, which I personally think is AWESOME!! The other rooms have showers. Its first come, first served. You can labor in pretty much any position you want as long as your doc oks it. The beds are supposedly equipped with birthing bars and some other things to help you through. If you want to use a ball, MP3/CD player or other stuff to help you through, you need to bring your own. When you first arrive to the hospital, only you and your spouse are allowed in triage to be checked, but once you get moved to the L&D room, you can pretty much have whoever you want in there. They didn't have a limit on the # of people. No photography or video of the actual birth though- hospital policy. After you can take as many pics as you want. They do encourage skin-to-skin and seem VERY BF friendly there.
Once the baby is born, you move to the 5th or 6th floor to the post partum "suites". These rooms are smaller but they're all private with private bathrooms with showers. Again, everything seemed really clean and well appointed. There's a pullout couch in the room for dad to sleep on. There was also one available in L&D. There's also a little table and chairs. They said to try and keep it to 4-5 visitors at a time. The rooms are small so any more and it would be WAY crowded in there.
Wifi is available and free and you're welcome to use your cell phone at any part of the hospital. TV is free in L&D, but in the room you have to order it.
Cafeteria is in the children's building and is only open 8am-8pm, but there's an Au Bon Pain cafe in the lobby that's 24 hours. They also mentioned that you're welcome to order in food whenever. You would just have your spouse meet the delivery guy in the lobby.
Oh- for natural birth the stay is 36 hours, but obviously they're not going to just kick you out in the middle of the night so I'm sure some arrangements are made in that case. For C-sections, 3-4 days depending on how you're feeling and healing.
Overall, it was a bit intimidating because it made it feel a bit more "real" but I felt very comfortable that we would be in good hands. I sure hope I'm right!!

Hospital Tour Tonight!- Update!!!
I had my myomectomy there and since it's a reproductive surgery I stayed in the post partum suites. They are so nice. And despite my incredible pain, I found the bed and big chair to be incredibly comfortable. DH and my mom were there a lot during my recovery and it was nice they had the table and chairs to spread out on, and how nice are those bathrooms? I'm delivering at Southside and while it's nice, it certainly doesn't have that hotel feeling that Katz has. Also the nurses were great at Katz, except they had to pull blood from me 5 times a day and being I have one good vein and the IV was in it that meant a lot more interruptions as they kept having to send other nurses to try. I was on liquid food for 2 days and it was ok, but once I was switched to solid food it was great. My friends uncle sells the food to all of LIJ and he has really good quality foods. Southside also has great food as a result. Try the cookies.

I've also heard good things about the food there. I heard that I must order the brownie

Hospital Tour Tonight!- Update!!!
Well the double chocolate cookie is to die for, so the brownie is probably great as well. My friend whose Uncle does the food got a plate of cookies from the chef at Southside. Of course, being that she was at my shower a month after birth and doesn't look like she ever had a child, she probably didn't eat them. Hoping he sends me cookies as well, since I am a long time family friend.

I gave birth there last week and was discharged within 36 hours. Actually, it worked out to be exactly 36 hours after birth.

Re: Hospital Tour Tonight!- Update!!!
Siblings can stay as long as they like except for overnight. We tried to beg the nurses to let DS stay overnight so DH can stay with me but the nurses refused so DH had to leave. He needed the rest so it was a good thing. My personal critique of the food is not a great one. It's okay but wasn't great overall. The good thing is they give you whatever you check so def check extra juices and water. I liked the breakfasts but the dinners were a bit salty. Overall I loved everyone over there and the room was spotless. The nurses and lactation specialists were wonderful! Also the nurses told us 2 nights mandatory for vaginal births so we had DD at 5am Tuesday and left at 3pm on Thursday.
