pediatric endoscopy
Has anyone's LO had to go through this? Just want to know what to expect. All the stuff in the news lately about the endoscopy equipment giving people infections is making me nervous! Based on bloodwork, my DS' GI doctor thinks he has Celiac's Disease, but wants to confirm it by doing the endoscopy.

Re: pediatric endoscopy
My DD had it at 18 months. no issues. It was a quick procedure at the hospital.

Re: pediatric endoscopy
My daughter has undiagnosed celiac bc I refused the endoscopy. She had positive blood work, has the gene for celiac and her symptoms went away when she stopped eating gluten, that was enough for me. I didn't see a need to officially confirm it by invasive measures.
We keep her gluten free and she's doing well. No need for an officlal diagnosis of a chronic illness.
Have you tried a gluten free diet yet? I'd do that first if you haven't.

Thank you. I did try a gluten free diet about a year ago but my DS was so picky that I just ended up caving and giving him regular food, but I guess I have no choice... its like he knew the chicken nuggets, etc. were gluten free or something LOL... I have seen a change in the past few weeks by giving him probiotics in his drink each morning so I am hoping once I eliminate gluten this will make a difference too. I am nervous about the endoscopy but the GI said before I start removing gluten that he wants a definitive diagnosis by doing this procedure.

pediatric endoscopy
Just wanted to share that there is a very active fb group called Celiac Disease Support Group. DH was unofficially diagnosed since he's already been off gluten so long they can't do the endoscopy but I've found that group very informative and there are a lot of parents with young ones on there.

Who's your GI? Do YOU want a definitive diagnosis?
The only thing that will tell you if your child will benefit from a GF diet is trying a GF diet.

Re: pediatric endoscopy
Thanks All-
Liveformoments- You have a good point... I think the bloodwork is enough for me to confirm that he does have Celiac, just thinking of the endoscopy makes me nervous having to put him under, etc. so I think I will start by picking up various gluten free items this weekend and trying the diet out. DH brings DS to the GI on Wednesday so I will have him tell him that for now we wish to see how the diet plays out.

I think that is the right thing to do. Why put your baby under and do an invasive procedure? I know you said he is picky, but a couple of weeks and it will all be fine

Feel free to reach out if you need any advice, or just to vent to someone who's been through it. It's tough in the beginning to find stuff they will eat, but it gets easier. The worst part is going to events/parties, I always have to pack stuff and make cupcakes. Good luck!
