bringing kids to adult doctor appt
annoyingly, my GYN's office is notoriously difficult to make appointments with. i am out of birth control, and they gave me an extra month to tide me over. now i have an appointment this week for a checkup and so i can get a refill, but i may have to bring my kids with me. theyre 21 months and 3.5. i was thinking i would keep my little one in the stroller and make my 3.5 year old stay up my by head playing her iPod. is this completely weird? will people in the office look at me like i have three heads? if my DH can't get home from work in time and my parents are unavailable, i will really have no choice but to take the kids with me. ugh.

Dd has no choice but to come with me. SHes been to the dr when I was sick and had no choice and for ob gyn check ups. Now she is I'm school for a two hour window so I try to do it then, but she has been to A LOT of appts. It is what it is. Hopefully they don't have a long wait, that's the worst part.

Re: bringing kids to adult doctor appt
I only did this once with DD at my 6 week pp apt. She screamed a lot, the assistant and my doctor wound up holding her trying to calm her down. It was cute but I was so embarrassed. Never again. I won't schedule an apt for myself when I have to bring one or both of my kids, mainly because doctors offices skeeve me the hell out and I know they'll be trying to touch everything.

I brought my 2.5 year old to few appointments including one when I was getting an internal sono. No one batted an eye.

I've been bringing my DS to doctors with me from his 3rd week. I have no choice. If you are uncomfortable with your older child being in the room when they do the exam, you can ask if there's an medical assistant/nurse/receptionist who can sit with her in another room... but I wouldn't think twice about seeing a kid there, even in the room. Wouldn't bother me nor would I think it were strange.

At my ob/gyn there's always a few kids in the waiting room. I took 3yo DS with me last week while the doctor did an internal on me. I was covered by a sheet so he didn't see a thing. I would definitely bring them, no one will think twice when they see you.

I've done it... as long as you know they will not run a total amuck , then do it. You have to do what you have to do sometimes.

Re: bringing kids to adult doctor appt
I've done it. I scheduled my annual visit when DH didn't have to work late. Then something came up and he couldn't get home. I had no choice but to take DS. I was nervous about it but it wasn't a big deal. I just kept him in the stroller and put the stroller by my head while the dr was examining me. Both the Dr and her nurse got such a kick out of him and seemed to enjoy having him there. I was pleasantly surprised. I wouldn't worry about it too much! Good luck!

Re: bringing kids to adult doctor appt
I had to take my DS to several OB/Gyn appointments. It's so annoying but I just kept him by me, by my head, with the iPad. Although, much to my dismay, he was way more interested in watching what was going on with me and had 32345 questions about it too.

Re: bringing kids to adult doctor appt
I just simply cannot do it cause I have a little explorer that's always on the move. Luckily, there are a couple of days that my MIL can help me watch him, but since she has her own things to do, I always have to ask her before making the appointments.

Re: bringing kids to adult doctor appt
I brought my DS to one of my sonos with my husband and he couldn't stop moving around, touching things. I remember the tech getting all frustrated because of this to the point that my husband had to take him out of the office. I was so infuriated with this woman and wanted so bad to slap the bitchiness out of her!! Grrrr!!!!
