Ok, I have a lot of questions.

When did you start?

How did you know when it was time to start?

What about if there is a new baby coming into the picture?
I'm sure there will be regression and that's of change at once for a little one.

What is the 3 day method? Just stay in the house for 3 days and let them run around without a diaper and ask every 15 minutes to use the potty?

Ah, the million dollar question. Here are my answers, but every child is different!

1. When did you start?
DD was just over 2.5 years old. We did it over Martin Luther King Jr holiday weekend. We got rid of the diapers and pull-ups on Friday night and Saturday morning she put on underwear and we took it from there.


2. How did you know when it was time to start?
She had been using the potty after meals and after naps and before bedtime to get used it. Sometimes she went, sometimes she didn't, but it was to show her what it meant to be a "big girl"

I'm sure there will be regression and that's of change at once for a little one.
That's why we did it b/c I was pregnant with DS. Since he was born, she hasn't really regressed, but sometimes forgets to go, ignores the urge b/c she's playing, will drip and then run for the bathroom.



3. What is the 3 day method? Just stay in the house for 3 days and let them run around without a diaper and ask every 15 minutes to use the potty?
The 3-day method basically is that you don't go anywhere for 3-days. You get rid of all diapers/pull-ups and only use underwear. We put one of those baby proof sheets on her bed for naps and overnight, so if she had an accident, it wouldn't destroy the mattress. Day 1 there were multiple accidents. Day 2 there were 2 or 3. Day 3, there were none. She was excited to pick out Disney underwear and tell everyone she was a big girl


4. When did you introduce a training potty?
When she turned 2, we introduced the potty seat to her and told her she could sit on it whenever she wanted.

As an additional note, we did a rewards thing for her. Every time she did pee pee on potty, she got a penny. Everytime a poop, a nickel. If she kept her bed dry at nap time, a dime. If overnight dry, then a quarter. We did this for a few months until she got used to going without asking for an incentive.

Her piggy bank is rather full!

I started 3 months before the new baby and did the 3 day. The 3 day works best before 30 months. The first day was torture. But it was the best thing I did! We were out bowling on day 4! I used stickers, and sometimes a special treat. Also, don't use underwear. Just have them bare bottom. Underwear can feel like a diaper to them. I didn't really have regression when the baby came. Maybe 1 accident.

How did you know when it was time to start?We just decided we were done with diapers and he was going to be on board. He would go on the potty but not consistently at all. Like once every few months and only with Pop Pop. I know many will say they will go when they are ready......If I waited for my son to be ready on his terms I would be 105!

1. When to start: I started at 26 months with first kid, 22 with second. I waited til I had a 3 day weekend wth both.

2. New baby: didn't have this as an issue.

3. Method: I did the 3 day. Bare bottoms day 1 & half of 2. Undies midday day 2 & day 3. Can't go anywhere for a while though (kids don't give you much head notice).

we did the 3 day method when dd was 23 months old. i would highly recommend that method, although we do have dd in pullups at night bc she doesnt seem to wake up to go while sleeping (she is only 26 months old).
She was showing interest when we would go to the bathroom so we figured we would try it out and are glad we did.

in terms of another baby coming, i wouldnt do it right before the baby arrives, but 2-3 months prior should be ok. your LO may regress or they may not.

I waited till my son was ready. I was bribing him with temporary tattooes to go before bath with maybe a 50% success rate. One day we literally woke up, declared he needed to go potty and within a week was dry like 99% of the time including overnight. He was 2 year 8 months.

I know with him the 3 day method would have been a distaster. He doesn't react well to being forced to do things and peeing on the floor would have totally traumatized him.

2 1/2. We started. I was 7 months Preggo. We did the3 day this only works if they are ready. I tried around 2 but it failed. Worked like a charm at 2 1/2. Took a weekend where I knew we didn't have much going on and dh was home too. We have never had regression. She's gone all night since trained with only maybe 2 accidents at night and maybe 3 during the day. She's almost 5 now. Baby #2 never effected her. She had a few weeks before she was due. We practiced on the potty for months. Sometimes she would go. Sometimes not. But she knew what it was. Bought her new undies and went from there. I tell people to try but if they are not getting it don't stress. And try again in a few months.

I'm listening. One DD is clearly not interested, and acts as if the potty is made of hot poison lava, lol. They're 2 1/2 and I just had a baby.

I used the 3 day method for both of my kids. Just trained dd2 this week at 23 months. I am also pregnant (20w) but that is plenty of time for her to really get it before baby comes. Just follow the book and you will be fine - it may seem long but it is a quick read. What is really long is 3 days in the house, but it is totally worth it. I am so thrilled to not have to buy diapers for a few months! Good luck!

I started 2 months before DS turned 3. I took a 4 day weekend to do the 3 day method

How did you know when it was time to start?
He had been giving everyone a hard time about changing his diaper. He would fight us tooth and nail, I think because it was a control issue for him. Plus he was going stretches during the day where he was still dry.

What about if there is a new baby coming into the picture?
I didn't have another child on the way but I think it totally depends on the kid. I've had friends who had their DC regress and friends whose DC didn't at all. You never know.

The 3 day method worked like a charm for us because DS was absolutely ready to be trained (I probably waited a little too long before I bit the bullet to train him). I saw you now have the PDF so it's pretty self-explanatory. I would emphasize to do whatever you can to keep it positive and have a reward system that you know works for your child. My DS could give 2 hoots about a sticker chart. We've tried it multiple times but he just doesn't care. But he loooves chocolate and we never normally have any in the house. So I gave him one hershey kiss at a time as a reward. And by the time the 3 days were over, he'd forgotten about the chocolate.

When did you introduce a training potty?
We introduced it at 2 but he only had a passing interest in it. By the time we trained him he was peeing on it once or twice a day but in diapers otherwise. He had never pooped on the potty before we started and luckily had only one poop accident.

Also, my DS never woke up dry. He started to after a couple of days into the 3 day method and I was shocked. So I wouldn't worry about that. Even if she's not ready for night training, it's much easier to have one nighttime pull up each day than diapers all day long. GL!
