? about refinishing floors

We're moving into a house next month that has wood floors under carpet. We know we'll probably need to have the floors refinished. Will separate people have to pull up the carpeting? Should we do that ourselves? Any thoughts on what we should do with our furniture while the project is in progress? Can the refinishing be completed in a day or two, or is this a massive project (it would be for an L-shaped LR/DR, two half-flights of stairs, and a short hallway... if I can talk DH into it).

We pulled up the carpet ourselves because of the added cost (10 years ago so don't remember the amount).
We put the furniture in bedrooms and the basement but you could rent a pod if you don't have the extra space.
Refinishing done in a day.

I would pull the carpet up yourself. It so easy and why waste the money paying someone. It will take a few days and you will need the furniture completely out of the areas. I just loaded it in other rooms. House was a mess for a few days. Can you do it before you move in?

We pulled up the carpet ourselves. Re-doing the floors will take at least a few days (close to a week). They come in and sand the floors, stain them (if you are doing that)and then put down the first coat of polyurethane (?). That has to dry (I think over 2-3 days, but maybe just 1 - I don't recall exactly) and then they put down the second coat of polyurethane which also has to dry (another 2-3 days) before furniture can be placed on it. (It might be one day between coats and then 2-3 days for the last coat to dry before you can "use" it). We did't move in right after we closed - wanted to do some work first, but if you are moving in right away, you will not be able to use the rooms where you are having the floors re-finished. You'll have to put that furniture somewhere else in the house or some type of storage place (unit or pod etc).

We pulled the carpet up ourselves and didn't move in until after the floors were finished so we didn't have to worry about furniture. We did get a couch delivered 4 days after they were done.
It's usually a two day process then you want to wait 24-48 hours to walk on them (socks only - no shoes)
It's a VERY strong smell - if you have the option to be somewhere else - take it.
When my parents redid their floors, they piled all the furniture into one room and covered with sheets. You'll get some dust when they sand the floors down.
I have a recommendation if interested. You could always call and ask them how long they recommend before putting furniture back and find out the cost to rip up the carpets.

If it is at all possible, before moving in, paint the walls. Then pull up the carpets, and have the floors done. Wait three days for the floors to dry, and then move in. It will be the easiest way to do it.

We paid to pull up carpets. Didn't own tools to get out those little nails and didn't have time. It was part of the price but not expensive maybe 200?

It took them 2-3 days to do entire upstairs and 2 days to down main floor.

We used gold star and were happy with them.

Removing carpeting is definitely an easy do it yourself job, just be prepared to remove tons of staples that held down the carpet,

Definitely do floors before painting.

Also, moulding may have been put on post-carpeting. There was a gap when we removed our carpet, but we fixed it with adding shoe moulding,

It's worth it to do floors and paint before the furniture arrives.
