I think the last time I sobbed at a TV show like this was when George died. And Denny. This show just makes me mental!

I can't get over how Cristina had such an awesome send-off with an option to come back... and then this...

I knew he had a year left on his contract, so I totally didn't think this would happen. I was really hoping it was a stupid dream sequence, but that looked like he died. I haven't stopped thinking about it all day and have to keep reminding myself that it's a SHOW!

I was way too mad to cry last night. I think that if they were going to send him off like that they should have at least given him a better episode. It was much more emotional for me when George/Lexie/Mark died. Yesterday was so cold and FAST. As much as I try to understand that Meredith's character is cold like that it just felt weird bc I remember when Derek got shot she was hystercial and last night she was just BLAH. Worst breakup ever. I think I would have rathered he cheated on her and she left him lol.

I haven't watched regularly in a while. Caught a few episodes this season. Had no idea this was happening tonight.


I hate that they make Meredith so cold. Although she did get me crying a few times tonight.
But mostly she's so stone cold.

The only reason I still watch this show is because I have always watched if and want to see it to the end. I thought it should have ended like 2 seasons ago.

Now that Derek is gone, I don't know where they are going. Meredith is a sad sack, generally speaking, and Derek was her happy ever after. I hate that he's gone. I hope this is the last season now. Mc Dreamy was way too important to go on without him.

Im a big fan of the show been watching it since it started. I honestly didnt think he was going to die. I thought after he saved the people he was fine and then boom the truck smashed him. I was even playing out different scenarios of what was going to happen during the show so that he would end up staying alive. I thought they would somehow get his sister to him and she would preform surgery and save his life. I didn't think he would die and was stunned at the end when he did. I was bawling my eyes out and my husband came over and put his arm around me.
I think Meredith acted the way her character is. She never had any emotional stable person in her life, her mom never seemed to be affectionate, her dad was an alcoholic and never really part of her life. I think that how she reacted was how she is and spot on. She was in shock and knew that there was no hope for him.
I think next week is going to be tough and that she leaves at the end to go see Christina. Not sure what is going to happen next year, I was not fond of this season felt it went all over the place and no one really moved on from the season before. I was not happy with the sister, loved the April Jackson storyline but then we never saw him really again. I don't know how they are going to make it work next year but Ill watch and see.
I have read throughout the years that Patrick Dempsey wanted out too. He was done with the show and though he had some time left on his contract he was ready to leave. I don't like that they killed him but I bet Shondra didn't want him to work for her again so she killed him. I wonder if Christina will come back next year and I doubt we will see Derek again but maybe we will.

I finally watched it but I knew it was going to happen because spoilers were all over FB.

I'm so mad they killed him off. It felt unnecessary. They had been phasing his character off the show for the last two seasons. It would have been better to have him just stay in Washington and him and Mer do a long distance marriage. I feel like they did the same with him as they did with Cristina. They slowly gave them less story lines and made you care less about what their character was doing and then the actor leaves.

If they HAD to kill him off, I feel like it could have been done so much better. Like previous posters said, deaths like George and Denny just hit so hard. And this one, to me, felt like a repeat of Mark Sloane's death.

Yes, he saved all those people but he was kind of blasé about it. Like 'first I do this and then I do that and oh look I saved everyone la de da'. It was a little boring. And who stops their car in the middle of a K turn to look for their phone?!

What really got me at the end was Meredith's last words to him. "Derek...it's okay. You go. We'll be fine."

I know the writers were trying to have Meredith convey that she and the kids will be fine without him. And that the subtext was to tell the fans that the SHOW will be fine without him, but I took it as the 'we' she was referring to was them. That this was just another bump in the road for their story. That their love will be fine, even after his death. That they'll face what's beyond together eventually.

THAT made me sob. Because their story has always been about separating and finding each other again.

The more I think about it, the more I think Shondra has a true hatred for Patrick Dempsey. Not only did she kill him off, but she killed him off in such a brutal manner. McDreamy, a renowned neurosurgeon, is dead due to, of all things, medical malpractice??? And he's conscious enough to know what's happening?? WTF?

I'm still pretty angry about this whole thing. Like I said, I feel like I owe it to..I don't know? Myself?...to see it through to the end since I have invested 11 years of my life in this show and now its going to end eventually with Mopey Meredith being even more miserable? This is a just an unfair travesty to the viewers. We have suffered through Christina's fugly cry face, over-acting monologues during in the dramatic scenes, the death of Mark, Lexi, etc., April's hyperactive annoying antics, all to get to this point? Back to square one with Mopey Meredith? Ridiculous!

I haven't posted here because I'm still sad. I've watched grey's since the very beginning.. multiple times. & I can't believe that Derek died.. and then to go the way he did. I'm sure Shonda did it for the shock factor but how can she leave Meredith without her best friend or her husband. I really was wishing for a happily ever after for them at the end of this show. It literally broke my heart for him to die (& especially to put myself in Meredith's shoes). Ugh. WTF Shonda?!

So, I've been outright pissed for shonda killing off derek, because she had an issue with patrick dempsey. To me, all the good feelings and memories I have from greys are tainted not only because he died, but because he died because shonda wanted the actor gone, and not because it was the right way or a good way to take the story. Meredith has already shown strength and resilience. There really is no point to his horrific death. And now, I am obsessing over how little thought went into it. So, didn't bailey say panic at 5? And the cops show up at 5 on the dot? But when they called the neurosurgeon, it was a little after 8. And it was after 10 when he showed up. And the middle of the night when meredith was there. Doesn't add up. And would meredith really have went all day without hearing from derek knowing he missed his meeting without calling hospitals (where as a doctor in another hospital she might have some pull?) especially when bailey and Amelia knew he was rushing to make a flight and might miss it? And it was dark when derek showed up at the hospital. but wasn't it still fairly early at the scene of the accident? And the fire truck or ambulance was still there when he got in his car. It's not realistic that it would take them that long to get him to the hospital. It's just all very frustrating and has made me lose tremendous respect for shonda. She's a very selfish writer and seems not to be writing for fans, but for revenge on the actors playing these characters. (She loved lexi and chyler, and when chyler wanted to leave, she had her die and that was sad, but she gave her mark, and had mark die because she thought it would be too depressing to have mark always longing very lexi. Uet, she doesn't feel that way now.) anyway, rant over.
