It's pretty heavy. When It was over it felt like I went through a war, it was emotionally intense.

agreed. watched it last night. still feeling it this morning. i came in to work with the sunshine outside, and all i kept thinking was, "why am i here? i should be in bed, mourning!"
and i wasn't even a huge fan to begin with.
i always thought he was special, but after that, i'm ready to declare him a genius. a genius people just did not understand.

I can't wait to watch this. I'm also going to wait for the weekend. Just the trailer was upsetting to watch.

Re: Montage of Heck
I watched half of it last night and will be watching the rest tonight.
I wake up really early for the gym and staying up "that late" would have been a mess for me.
But I couldn't just set the DVR and wait. I couldn't wait.
A lot of what they projected so far is not entirely new to me, as far as his history goes with growing up. I'm very well-schooled in Nirvana, Kurt and really, many/most of the bands that originated in the Pacific Northwest in the late 80's-early 90's. I devoured everything I could get my grubby hands on pre-Internet days.
What is jarring is hearing it all in his voice. That's what was breaking my heart.

Re: Montage of Heck
it was sooo heavy. there was so much i hadn't known. i was amazed by all the incredible footage there is of kurt with francis. :( the songs actually have a whole new meaning now. i loved them when i was younger, but i don't think i ever really understood what they were saying or the meaning behind it...or WHY he was saying what he was saying. Boy. It was intense. why was grohl not really a part?

Agree. DH told me after Kurt died, Grohl and Courtney got into a big fight over Nirvana's rights. Basically Courtney wanted all the rights and Grohl wanted to split it or something like that. Then Courtney went off and said Nirvana would be nothing without Kurt and Grohl should kiss the ground he walks on or something to that effect. Grohl obviously got all pissed off about that and since then never even talks about Nirvana or sings any Nirvana songs and apparently gets super pissed off if anyone even mentions Nirvana to him. Courtney really drove a big wedge there with her greed.

Re: Montage of Heck
Dave Grohl wasn't in it because his interview occurred too late in the game - too close to the premiere at film festivals and the final edit was already done. They tried to edit his interview in but it changed the flow of the film. He was busy doing all sorts of stuff for the Foos so he couldn't sit for his interview until very late.
I'm sure they will have his interview in the DVD release...probably as something separate, not edited in.
Courtney and Dave have a very long history of fights and yeah - Dave doesn't really talk about Nirvana very much. Kurt and Dave had many issues themselves...Kurt always had issues with the various drummers that Nirvana had had over the years, probably because in his heart he wanted to be the drummer of the band.
As far as I know, though, there aren't hard feelings between Frances Bean and Dave. The timing just didn't work out properly.

Re: Montage of Heck
Honestly, none of us know the full story, the real feelings behind the people in this. So, I leave it be as it may, and respect all of them and their decisions, whatever they may be. I am as well versed in all things Nirvana as the next person, but thats not what this was about.....it was about a beautiful and tortured soul. It was sad and heartbreaking, nothing groundbreaking, nothing new, but sad. It was just sad.

Re: Montage of Heck
It's extremely heavy. I wasn't sure how I would feel about the animated sequences and his art getting animated but it worked phenomenally. And I loved hearing so much from Krist Novoselic; I feel like he hasn't said much on Kurt over the years and I love that he opened up.
Kinda off topic, but not really since they played Reading together in '92 I guess, I got tickets to see L7 at Irving today...crazy, it's like return of the 90's this week.

Re: Montage of Heck
What struck me, bc it always has/does - The unplugged/Nirvana version of "Where Did you Sleep Last Night" - that performance, I remember watching it when it aired and you can almost feel his pain, and see it in his face and hear it in his voice. It haunts me, it did then and still does today. There is a shot at the end, where its just a close up of his face and he closes his eyes while singing and then opens them again and kind of looks up but nowhere in particular and it always haunted me for some reason. It likes you can see the personal demons in his soul in his eyes.

Yes! I've always said that to DH about that one moment with his eyes. I always felt that it was such a sad moment and so startlingly haunting.
I am still thinking loads about the film and one thing I really took away from it, which I guess wasn't something that occurred to me much before, was how sad I feel for Krist. They had such a history together and they worked shit jobs and lived in shit conditions in shit apartment buildings and they grew up together and he was there for it all from the very start of it. It must have been absolutely awful to be in his shoes.
If anyone wants to see a little more candid footage of Kurt, check out Hit So Hard, the documentary about Patty Schemel (Hole's drummer) - she and Kurt were close friends and she talks about him in the film.

every time I see the unplugged performance I think to myself "he knew" he knew exactly what he was going to do and none of them had any idea.

Yes that performance always gives me the chills. Even if I'm just listening to the album, when he gets to that part and takes that deep breath I can see the moment where he looks up in my head. It's so powerful and haunting.
I ended up watching the movie, I couldn't wait until the weekend. I feel as many of you have stated - I can't stop thinking about it and I feel like I'm processing his death all over again as if it just happened. It's all just so sad. I hope Frances got some closure from all of this.
