please please please help me plan a party menu
DH and I are hosting a memorial day party for 18 people. We have pretty much NO backyard and our grill is kaput. We are not buying a new one.
I will cater most of it from a local deli but I don't really know what to get OR make. The group is comprised of a lot of big guys and big drinkers so I need to make sure I have a substantial amount food on hand. So far the only thing I can think of is
-a hero (thinking about 4 feet) -chips and dips
Pretty pathetic, I know. Please suggest EASY, filling things that I can either make or order that will fill this crowd. I am not interested in going the hot dog/hamburger route. Thanks!!

I would get 2 Heros , one meat and maybe a grilled chicken one, a pasta salad, potatoe salad and maybe sausage and peppers or something like that.

Pulled pork is easy for a crowd and you can make it ahead. I would order coleslaw and a few other salads to go with the hero and pork. A hero with chicken cutlet would be good. Maybe make ziti or mac and cheese too.

I thought about this but how does it "keep" sitting out? Would you cater it or buy a big ol' bucket of KFC?

Re: please please please help me plan a party menu
If you are having mostly big guys and big drinkers, I would def. get 2 heroes or at least make it a 6 ft instead of 4 ft. With the hero, I would def. serve potato salad.
I would also do some sort of chicken, like chicken wings- you can buy those pre-made or you can get the frozen or semi-made ones that you put in the oven. Or if you don't want chicken wings you can do a tray of fried chicken.
I would also get a tray of sausage and peppers.
I would also do things they can pick at, so the chips and dip is a good idea.
Are you doing dessert at all? Because I feel like getting/making a tray of cookie and brownies to serve after dinner would go over really well!!

I catered it from a deli type place that makes delcious fried chicken. They put it in a sterno tray. I reheat it in the oven when ready, just to warm. And if it gets cold, people like cold fried chicken anyway. It's a huge hit It never sits long enough to get cold- they devour it!

I would do 2 heroes, some salads etc, and the Fried Chicken sounds nice and different!
I don't like to eat pasta (ziti or lasagna) at summer parties, its soo heavy!
