Who has been stung by a jelly fish?

What is it like? Does it really hurt that bad, how long does pain last?

I felt like I got stung but it wasn't bad. Wondering what it's like.

Weird topic, I know!

People get red welts and putting wet tea bags on them seem to help.

Who has been stung by a jelly fish?

I have but not since I was a kid. Honestly I don't really remember so I'm guessing it didn't hurt much

Who has been stung by a jelly fish?

I did when I was younger and my daughter did last year, it felt like a piece of glass was stuck in my knee and it was slightly red. Nothing else happened, went to first aid and I think they just put rubbing alcohol on it

Re: Who has been stung by a jelly fish?

I have, a couple of times. Last was on my honeymoon and it was bad. I walked into it, turned around and it got the back of my legs too.
It stung like crazy then started to burn. I used the cheap vodka in our room as a disinfectant and then soaked my legs in cool water. Took half a benadryl to get the welts down. It was awful.

It stung but, I was a kid so it was a long time ago. I remember it was at camp and the counselors were on the shore with rubbing alcohol to put on the stings. It was a swim test and we had to tread water for a certain amount of time no matter what happened to pass. So we were all getting stung and had to stay out there. No one was giving up because your swim cap level determined what boating class you could do. We all wanted to do wind surfing. lol.

When I was a kid I was stung on my pinky toe. Felt like I stepped on a lit cigarette and the head of it was stuck on my toe for a while

Best way to describe the burning feeling.

Re: Who has been stung by a jelly fish?

I got stung last december in PR. It hurt a lot at the moment, like being burned with an iron, and then the mark was hot. i didn't do anything. The mark stayed for a couple of days and went away; but curiously, a week later it came back. At that moment it didn't hurt, but it was itchy.

It happened to me when I was a kid, so I don't fully remember. However, I know panic didn't ensue or anything like that. I feel like I remember getting extremely itchy, but I also feel like the whole scenario was not that horrific.

Re: Who has been stung by a jelly fish?

I have been stung quite a few times.

It all depends on what kind of jellyfish, how many tentacles came in contact with your skin, how sensitive you are, etc.

I have experienced stings that were like a moderate burning/itching/mild pain that lasted only 20 minutes or so to a real OUCH sting with some redness in the area.

Never anything close to me thinking I needed medical attention though.

Who has been stung by a jelly fish?

I have been stung twice. Once was not bad at all, just itching, really. Second time hurt a lot, but didn't need to go to the doctor or anything.

Who has been stung by a jelly fish?

When I was in Key West snorkeling, we accidentally were surrounded by a group of jellyfish so I was stung multiple times within a one-minute period. The pain went away after like 15 minutes, and it was a light itching and burning - not terrible. Spraying it down with vinegar helped.

Re: Who has been stung by a jelly fish?

We used to put meat tenderizer on it...I've heard vinegar works too. Now I would never swim if I thought there might be a chance of getting stung!

I got stung but it wasn't that bad , pour white vinegar on it if it hurts...I always bring a spray bottle with me to the beach for that reason.

Re: Who has been stung by a jelly fish?

What you described definitely could have been a jellyfish sting. It can be mild with little sting burn like feeling that goes away after 5-10 minutes. It can be severe with a severe pain initially with what looks like a contact burn and stings/burns for a while. And even feel like a dull ache days later.

All I could think about reading this thread was the Friends episode!

"Damn all the jellyfish!"
