Internal Exams

When do your doctors start them? I thought it was at 36 weeks (at my old doctor that's what it was I thought.)

I am 37 weeks and tomorrow and my doc said they don't usally start until 38 weeks for the second baby? Seems odd, no?

I just want to get this show on the road and know if anything is happening!

Re: Internal Exams

I don't remember with my first, but for this one (second), I start this week at 36 weeks. I'm high risk, so not sure if that impacts the plan.

Internal Exams

With my first 36 weeks. This time I went at 36 and 37 so far and she said she didn't need to do them. I actually asked her to do one Thursday at my 37 bc I was curious. So I think my first would have been next week at 38.

Internal Exams

I've been having them for a couple of weeks (I'm only 32 weeks), but I've had preterm deliveries in the past(earliest 34 weeks). They hurt like hell.

My doctor didn't do them with my first pregnancy. The only time I had them was in the hospital.

I think 37 weeks for each, but if you want one at 36 weeks they will do it. Otherwise just strep test at 36 weeks.

Re: Internal Exams

I'm confused how/why people are saying the internal exam hurts. Have had 2 (36 and 37 weeks) and the doctor basically fingers you deeply....nothing that hurts by any means.

I agree.
It didn't hurt at all.

I laugh at the people who say it hurt. If you thought THAT hurt, I feel bad for you when you are in labor.

Oh interesting! Maybe as the doc notices things moving he does different things each time?

I had a few with my first pregnancy - don't remember exactly when but some hurt and others don't. Actually depended on the dr. Now, the last internal I had was the day before my water broke and was given to me in the hospital by an intern who was particularly rough and I am convinced he broke my water. It was NOT pleasant!

Re: Internal Exams

When my doctor does them they don't hurt... The only time an internal hurt for me is when they did them in the hospital when I was being induced with DS. It was a resident I think, but its like she shoved her entire arm up there.
