Pain management doctor
Is this where I would go to get pain pills for a chronic medical condition?

Yes.
I believe most Pain management doctors are usually anesthesiologists.

thanks! I have an upcoming apt but have never been to a pain mgmt dr...wasnt sure if it was worth it or not. I need a refill on the pain pills I take (my insurance changed and I no longer have the same dr)

Its probably your best bet; since many doctors these days are very hesitant on refilling pain pills.
Most likely, you will be put on a "program"; which is what they call it. Where you will have to go on monthly visiits; for refills and eventually do urine tests to monitor that you are taking as directed; and not abusing.
I think its a pretty good idea.

This. They might even have some suggestions of other treatment options that might work for you. Many people find relief from acupuncture therapy (there are proven studies that acupuncture has KNOWN effects on the brain, in a good way), perhaps trigger point injections, epidural injections, steroid injections, many other options that might reduce your need for the pills.

I have severe endometriosis and nothing works but the percocet when I get a flare up. I was thinking of a Pain management dr. I was going to Andy forever and had surgery...

Me too!! It's usually only the 1st day of AF that my endo pain is so bad I can't even walk. I started using the percocet I have for when I get a kidney stone. So I take at least 2 or 3 throughout the day on CD1. But now I am starting to run out of them and heaven forbid I get a stone!
Please let me know if you get anywhere with the Dr. bc I may be following your lead.

Ugh I know exactly how you feel its awful! Motrin doesnt cut it, I take almost 10 a day when I run out of Percocet. I hope the pain management dr is the right person to go to...did you get from your obgyn and then they wont give them anymroe?

No. I have them from my urologist because of my kidney stones. Whenever I have on that's passable, they give me percocet and flomax to help me pass it. I almost never go through the entire script of Perc, so I save them for stone attacks or other unforeseen pain. They are the only thing that helps with Endo. Literally. The only thing.

I'm not really sure if you need a pain management doctor for just enough Percocet to get through a few days a month. However, the climate is changing. Pain Management doctors will put you on a pain contract. Some people make a big deal out of signing but it should not be a problem to anyone who sticks to what is prescribed & doesn't take recreational drugs. They may make you use the same pharmacy every time. Thank those 2 junkies who committed the massacre in Medford for all of these changes and the fallout from that is the reason for doctors being so cautious. Some doctors lost licenses after that. I have an implanted Spinal Cord Stimulator for back injuries, so yes, pain management doctors can offer other options and not just pills. It was a big surgery but it wasn't terrible.
