Media Help for sensitive LO's under 3.5 and a picky mom!
I need help for media suggestions for my almost 3 year old SENSITIVE DD.
Before 1.5 years old, we never let her watch any TV. If she saw anything, it was probably football because my husband was watching the NFL.
Around 1.5 to 2 years of age, I introduced some singing type tv shows and youtube clips (let it go from frozen, part of your world from little mermaid, etc.) She LOVED that stuff. Anything musical she liked. I also let her watch the little einsteins baby's first signs movie where they taught some sign language. But honestly, I couldn't stand the music and visuals in that movie.
So then I let her watch Sesame Street and The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh, the 1977 version. She cannot watch them. It has given her nightmares where she wakes up screaming in the middle of the night about it. Or screams right at the tv screen while it is happening. Sesame street, it is usually Mr. Noodle. She hates Mr. Noodle. With Winnie the Pooh it is all the bees. She cries about pooh with the bees.
I just wanted to add some new stuff to our media collection now that she is turning 3, but I am soooo picky and between my pickiness and her sensitivity I have no idea what might be good. I never saw sofia the first, is that any good? Anything musical I might not know about? charlie brown dvds? i have no idea. please help.

She might like Sofia the First. My DD became obsessed with that show before she turned 2, and she still loves it and will be 3 in a few months. There are some episodes that have parts that your DD might consider scary, but many of the episodes don't have anything scary. Most of the episodes focus on moral dilemmas, rather than bad guys, but there are some episodes with 'bad guys", so you should probably screen them first to make sure they'd be ok for your DD. The show is very musical too, and every episode includes at least one New song.
If you get Sprout, that channel seems to be geared towards very young preschoolers, so you'd probably have luck find something good there. Maybe the Wiggles, Chloe's Closet, Super Why, the Pajanimals? Those are some of the tamer shows I can think of that are suited for very young kids.

What about Baby Einstein videos? They're puppets who don't talk, and the calming classical music and scenery might help her. My kids love them!

Yes, I forgot about Doc McStuffin, DD loves that too. Oh, and Mickey Mouse Club House.
Also, DD has a DVD by Leapfrog called The Letter Factory that she really loves, and it teaches all the letters and their sounds. I think there might be bees in it when they learn the letter B, but not scary bees.

DD is sensitive.
Mickey mouse clubhouse & sheriff Callie are good.
Sofia the first scared her: there are villians & she's just getting over it now.
Watch the show with her & turn it off if scary.
BTW: Tarzan is super scary!

On Sofia the First, there's a sorcerer named Cedric who could be scary to a young kid. Doc McStuffins, Sheriff Callie and Mickey Mouse are good ones.

My son pretty much only watches PBS Kids shows and Peppa Pig (which I think is on Nick Jr.) I love the PBS Kids shows b/c they are so educational. I esp. love Daniel Tiger for this age, because every episode has songs and it teaches kids to understand and manage their feelings. My son often sings the right song for what he's feeling, and it cracks me up (if he's scared of something, he'll sing "See what it is, you might feel better...." or if he doesn't want me to leave, it's "Grooooown-ups come back!"). His favorites are Daniel Tiger, Cat in the Hat (teaches about the natural world, animals, biology, etc.), and Curious George (teaches about science, physics, the natural world).
Also, we both love Peppa Pig b/c it's a pretty calm and slow-speaking/moving show (not overstimulating), and the British humor cracks me up.

What about Little Einsteins on disney Jr. The Backyardigans, Bubble Guppies, Team Umizoomi.
These shows all have a bit of singing and music, except Team Umizoomi - but the show keeps the kids interested.

Daniel Tiger is adorable, and really teaches the little ones how to handle all the big emotions they feel. Curious George and Peppa Pig are other faves around here.

If you have Optimum for cable you can watch the Nick Jr. shows on demand - or you can watch them before your daughter does. Bubble Guppies is a cute one - every once in a while there is a villain but for the most part it is very calm. I agree with the others about Sherriff Callie and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

Yup, all the same shows i would suggest, for the same reasons. Peppa, Curious George and Daniel Tiger. All very benign and not annoying at all. No violence, just cute

I would have to say Daniel Tiger. Probably one of the sweetest shows on TV. Very colorful and nothing scary at all.

I hate most stuff my kids watch but I deal bc they are quiet and happy. Lol. They are almost 3 and like Mickey, Dora, little charmers. Anything with music. One dd sat through most of frozen once. They aren't too into movies yet.

Love Daniel Tiger!! Really most PBS...Curious George, Super Why, Peg + Cat.
I used to like Peppa until it taught DD the word "stupid". Ugh...that took about a week to undo! Plus Peppa can be a little sassy to her parents.
