nurse or aid to help with MIL
Does anyone know how much a private nurse's aid or nurse would be to help with my mother in law at home? She has stage 4 lung cancer and there is nothing they can do for her anymore. She's in a nursing home/rehab facility now but wants to come home. The plan is to discharge her next week. SHe's going on hospice probably and Medicare gives 5 days a week, 4 hours.
She needs 24/7 care, so my husband and his brothers are rotating shifts. My BIL wanted to look into private care to help out too. I know it's expensive, but no idea how much or where to look for it even. Does anyone know??? I will ask the social worker tomorrow. Thanks!

nurse or aid to help with MIL
The best way to find one is through word of mouth. My great aunt is very sick but wanted to stay home. My mom found the most amazing woman from someone she works with who toke care of his grandmother before she passed. Without him passing on her name we would have never found her.

I think the average through an agency (generally a licensed home care service agency) is in the $22/hr range. If you don't have someone that you know or a referral, always go through an agency. They vet the people (background checks etc).
GL its a tough situation.
eta: the SW will definitely have agencies to refer you to in your area.
Also, you can speak to the hospice who is providing the aide and ask them what aide agency that aide is from, and there may be a possibility of private hiring that aide for more hours if you like her.
A nurse is a licensed professional. The aide does the daily care.

Look into hospice care at home. They are WONDERFUL!!! They have nurses, aides, religious people if you need (Rabbi, priests, etc.).
If you prefer private home care, I know of several aides (used through word of mouth). I used them for my grandmother. They were excellent. Couldn't have asked for better people. It is expensive (and they don't pay taxes) so it was a big sticker shock come tax season.
FM me if you want. Had aides then hospice care for my grandmother which just ended in May.
