What makes a better friend?
Would like your opinions
Not showing up to your birthday party where friends and family are attending but they do know the date of your actual birthday?
or

Totally depends on why they didn't come to the party IMO.

Re: What makes a better friend?
I know the birth dates of half the people in my office and most of their kids... this does not make me a good friend to any of them. Being present is what makes a better friend.

This. I mess up my BFF's bdays all the time. But I am there for them any hour of any day.
At our age, we don't really get together for our birthdays, except for the big ones.

Re: What makes a better friend?
Good friends don't need to know the exact date of my birthday.
The only 2 people I hold responsible for knowing the exact date of my birthday are my husband and my mother. My mother, she was there that day and it was kind of a big day for her as well. And my husband, well, he better not ever forget!! LOL!
I'm 40 years old. Too old to be a baby about my birthday, no matter which way I slice it.

I agree with this. I remember everyone's birthdays..DH doesn't remember anyone's except for immediate family. He's just not good with dates. However, we are there for our friends whenever they need us.
If the person couldn't make the party for a legit reason that's one thing, but if they just decided they didn't want to go then I wouldn't consider them a good friend.

What makes a better friend?
Out of the choices op provided I would say showing up to celebrate at a birthday party but not knowing the actual date. The best friends are the ones that are by your side when it counts- a good friend accepts that as adults we have tons of priorities that sometimes over shadow things like remembering someone's birth date.

Re: What makes a better friend?
This is a silly question to me. I'm horrible with dates and can easily miss people's birthdays. I guess that makes me a horrible friend in some people's eyes? Oh well, what am I going to do?

a dog or cat, forget people:)
to answer your question, based on the two choices, someone showing up for the party even if they don't know the exact date.

Showing up!
I am awful at remembering dates, but I never miss a celebration for someone (unless I already have something happening, obviously).

Re: What makes a better friend?
I guess it does depend on why they did not attend.
But, just based on the post itself without further details I say it is better to show up to the party and be there to celebrate with you --- and I say this because:
Many people are awful with dates. Similar to those who are terrible with names.
But as far as remembering a birth date - my brother is a prime example. He gets my sister's birthday and mine confused and forget the actual DATE, he can barely keep track of which of us is in what month!! He has always been this way, he will always be this way - it's just how he is.
So, I would say it is better that they attended your celebration.

Re: What makes a better friend?
I have to say neither, a better friend is someone who makes time for you , call you, text you , and lean a shoulder when your sad. They're also there for you through good times and when your at your worst !! Those friends are true blue!! If a friend didn't get me a gift I don't care their friendship is a gift enough!

ITA with both of above! I'm 36, not a little kid. Birthdays aren't a big deal as an adult and definitely not something to judge a friendship by!
