3 year old constipation
My son complains of 'hard poop' I see him trying to push for days before it happens. I guess I was hopiing it would resolve it self but is not. He refuses all veg and fruit, he refuses prune juice. Picky eater, only veg he gets is tomato sauce and ketchup.I'm trying with the food issue but meanwhile how about other things we can do? Fiberone? Is there a fiber gummy I think some one told me about? I need something safe on regular basis, not like a laxative or something? I never had this issue as a vegetarian ha ! I don't know how to help him.

My DD goes to a GI doctor and they recommend miralax every day. It's definitely helped a ton!

Dried pears is our go to. Dd loves them and it's a "snack" to her. There's also a prune concentrate that cvs sells that you can add to his juice/milk/whatever. That also helps.
Worst case, there is a toddler laxative you can give by pedis lax. They have watermelon tablets. I've found it at rite aid. Haven't tried it yet. It's in the case in case the other two above don't work, but they always do.

Re: 3 year old constipation
We simmer some prunes, raisins & pears with just a bit of water. Works every time. If you add more water, it makes a fiber drunk. Very sweet, so kids love it. A friend does pear juice & swears it works wonders.
What works with my 3 yr old is telling her that she HAS to eat xyz or her poop is going to hurt. She gets it. We make her eat veggies before meal. We also cut her milk with water.

Thank you! ! We been able to limit his cheese requests by reminding him his poop hurts but have not been able to get him to eat to help poop. But I think he is starting to get it.

Re: 3 year old constipation
Same. My DD would hold her poop for days before she was potty trained. It was awful. I would give her a small amount of Miralax everyday.

Miralax. It's a powder that tastes like nothing. Mix it with Water liquid and works well

Re: 3 year old constipation
Ped recommended 1/2 cap of miralax in liquid, once everyday until he goes. We haven't had to give it to our 3.5 year old for more than 2 days before things start moving. I just stir it into some juice.

Re: 3 year old constipation
I know this is an old post, so I apologize, but I found it doing a search. Did any of you give Miralax daily under the direction of a GI? If so, for how long and was your child able to get off of it?

Our GI doctor prescribed it for DD every day after we used four enemas one weekend. It worked wonders! We still use it a year later daily and he says it's fine.

Re: 3 year old constipation
I just worry that it isn't solving the underlying problem and I won't ever be able to get her off of it.

Re: 3 year old constipation
My daughter struggled with constipation for years. She finally went on Miralax (I was hesitant) and she took it for almost 2 years daily. I was worried what would happen when I weaned her off, but once she fully became toilet trained, it made going much easier and we have had no issues since taking her off (over 2 years now). Use it!!
