FTWM and potty training

How did you FTWM's do it?
My daughter is 3 and still not potty trained, although it's been hard on me trying to be consistent with the training since I work FT.
Looking for some tips, advice.

With DS1, I completely relied on daycare to PT. Once it clicked, he was PTed pretty quickly. He was 2y9m. With DS2, we spent a weekend using a modified version of the 3 day method. He's stubborn and wasn't going at daycare. We stayed home all weekend and things went better than expected. Daycare has been working with him since then. When we get home, we just make sure to remind him about using the potty. We started PTing 2 weeks before his 3rd birthday. Once he had his first success and got a treat, it was a big motivator. He gets treats every time he uses the potty. It's still new to him and he is responding well to it. He's so excited when he uses the potty. Different things work for different kids.

It's really hard, I get it. My DS turned 3 a few months ago and we are just now making some strides in potty training. I did a modified 3 day version over a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I happened to have the day off and was just constantly on top of him asking him to please let me know when he had to go. We are finally doing ok with pee - poop is a whole 'nother story. I sometimes feel like all I'm succeeding at is failing these days, because I see so many other working parents that have their kids potty trained lol

My daycare has been beyond unhelpful; I am so disappointed. I mentioned to the teacher that he was doing so well at home that I was considering sending him in underwear and a bunch of clothing changes for the times he misses (which honestly isn't that often any more as long as he is constantly reminded to think about going). She sighed, rolled her eyes and said loudly to my son, "well, this should be interesting. I can't exactly have you peeing on my floor every five minutes". This is not an in-home daycare, it is a center. But this isn't our first issue in this particular classroom (DS is 3 and the teacher wanted to speak to me about his "tantrums and obstinate behavior"... ummm, he's three. Not only is he three, he *just* had surgery to place ear tubes and now he can hear a LOT more than he used to, which can be overwhelming at first. I can't believe my son is the only 3 year old she has ever known have a temper tantrum and by her own words it's not constant and continuous... but I digress... that's a whole different can of worms)

Anyway. Not sure what advice I have to offer. It's been really hard here too and I often feel like I have the oldest kid ever to not be in underwear. So... maybe not advice, but I can tell you that you're not alone. Hopefully that makes you feel a little better, even if it doesn't help any.

To be honest, daycare kind of did it for me.
They started it at school and she just kind of got it. I never had to do the 3 day method or any of that.

Pooping was another story and it took her a YEAR after consistently peeing on the potty and staying dry day and night to get the pooping down.

NOTHING worked. Sticker charts, rewards, threats, nothing.

One day it just finally clicked but it had to happen on it's own. And it was insane how long she was shitting in her panties.

Take a Monday or a Friday off and do it over the weekend.

I did it over a holiday weekend so I had 3 days.

Dd decided she wanted to use the potty shortly after her 2nd bday. We switched from pull ups to underwear this past weekend and between daycare and us we make her try to go every 20 minutes. She had 6 accidents then 5 then 3 yesterday so hopefully it's improving.

I did the 3 day method and day 3 he stayed home with my FIL and by day 4 he was trained. He was 2 when we trained him.

Thank you. I do feel better that its just not me! The worst part is my husband is a teacher so he is home for the summer - he just does not want to be the one to train her. It is so frustrating.

We did the 3 day method over a long weekend. Take off a Friday or Monday or wail til Labor Day

I did the 3 day method with each of my kids, both times on Memorial Day weekend. My DD caught on really quick, it was easy. My DS not as quick, but he did get it on the third day.

It just sort of happened with DD. She was waking up dry in the mornings for a while, so she was actually trained night time first i guess, and we would then prompt her to use the bathroom when she woke up and at various times during the day. Every now and then she'd want to wear underwear and we'd let her and she'd have an accident in the house. Then one day she wanted to wear underwear all the time (this was about 2 months after she turned 3) and we told her that she'd have to use the potty every time we mention it and she said she would and she did and that was that. We basically just kept offering it to her and then she just decided she was done with diapers. For us it was all about just constantly mentioning it to her and then it just clicked. She had maybe 3-4 accidents in the past year.

We didn't push it at all. We just sort of waited until my son was ready. Everyone will try to make you feel like your kid is the last one trained but it isn't even true. I had people telling me that their child has been trained forever while mine was still in diapers and as they were speaking their kid was peeing on the floor. I would have to stop myself from laughing. This happened more than once and with different people. When my son decided he was ready he had absolutely no accidents at all. I don't consider a kid to be trained if there are daily accidents so now when people ask me what age he was trained, it probably sounds like he was much older than most. I look back now and I know that my son could have been trained sooner if I pushed it but unless Freud was right I don't think it's made a difference in his life. He was dry overnight before we really even started to work on training. It was very stress-free when we did potty train him. Daycare helped.
