FTWM & potty training
How did you do it? Did you take a few days off from work to immerse yourself in the process or was a slow after-work/on-the-weekend kind of thing? For some reason I'm dreading this like you wouldn't believe lol
I've been trying to get DS (who's almost 2 y/o) used to the general concepts of potty training (he has a potty & seems to understand what we're doing on it, how to flush, etc), but he doesn't seem to have any idea that HE goes potty & would sit in his diaper all day if we let him. Do I need to spend a week off with him running around completely naked & peeing on my carpets? Or is there a training method that I can use that is less intense, but will move things along faster than they've been going? TIA

Re: FTWM & potty training
We lived with my ILs up until 3 weeks ago. My MIL would not let us put Kaydyn in underwear. We tried pull ups and she really didn't get the concept at all. She would use the potty here and there but not consistently.
Then 1 day my MIL decided to put her underwear while we were at work. She had 1 accident the 1st day and 1 the 2nd and that was it.
If she didn't do this I was going to take a Friday or Monday off and put her in underwear for 3 straight days and hope that she got the hang of it. We knew she knew what to do, it was just easier for her to go in the diaper/pull up.

Re: FTWM & potty training
daycare! When DS#1 turned 3.5 (I had tried at 2 and 3 to potty train over the summer), his teacher said "we have linoleum floors, just bring in lots of extra clothes" she had him trained by the end of the week
DS#2 at the same center - different teacher was not as willing. We switched daycares and within the first week his new teacher had him trained!

Re: FTWM & potty training
Ugh - I wish I had someone willing to train him for me! That sounds awesome LOL I didn't know that daycares even did that!
Mkr09, thanks for the tip. Maybe I'll just do a weekend in undies to see how it goes...If anything, it should at least mitigate the mess

Yep - daycare, but for a different reason. DD saw her friends who were a few months older starting to train and she wanted to be just like them. I didn't even have to broach the concept at home - she just decided all on her own that she wanted to do it. It was awesome

Re: FTWM & potty training
Auntie!
But I was always calling and hearing how it was going. At first my aunt was sorta of lazy about it. Rather have a pull up on than run the risk of puddles on her carpet. Finally she tried undies under pull ups (cause I read it here then immediately called her). That was also the day she took the whole day to try. Another request of mine. She was constantly running errands and that meant AJ went back into a diaper.
Once she spent a full day at home with her and put her on the potty every 20mins for a good 10mins she had better success. She made it fun and playful because she sat in there with her the whole time (I’d call and talk to AJ as she sat in the bathroom!) Then she sent her home with us. We left her underwear on all day and asked her often (tho she always says no) but when she had to know, she told us. It was only 3days and she was done.
She had one accident because she was confused what the feeling was and why her leg was getting warm. But she hated being wet and quickly connected the two. So much so, she’ll ask to come out of a bath (BEG, cry and Plead) so she won’t have to pee herself.
She had two poo accidents due to slow response on behalf of the adult in question. She had one pee accident because her bedroom door was closed and I didn’t get there fast enough to open it for her.
Our daycare too trains. They were starting with her but when the assistant was fired (my fault) that part of school got pushed aside. I think they would have fully trained her but it would have taken longer as they have more kids.
