I'm trying to decide between

Madela Pump in Style® Advanced Breast Pump

Spectra 2 Hospital Strength Breast Pump

Pro's and/or Cons to either?

Those that have the Spectra - is it portable? I'll have to bring what ever I decide to get to work after 3 months.

If my insurance covers the spectra, I'm definitely getting it. I had to EP with DD1 and all the EP groups I'm in rave about it.

ETA: but the PISA is a great pump too.

If you're insurance covers the spectra s2 def that one. It's a closed system, whereas the medela isn't. Plus it's hospital grade, quieter and gentler

My insurance didn't cover either. I used the Medela and it worked just fine for me.

Re: Breast Pumps

I had a Medela PISA and Freestyle from my last 2 kids (when insurance didn't cover anything). This time around I just had a Spectra S2 delivered to me through insurance. I switched because 1) it's a closed system and 2) the reviews I read comparing the pumps talked about being able to pump a lot more milk with the Spectra S2.

I had issues with milk getting in the tubes with both of my Medelas, so I really wanted a closed system this time around.

I have a freestyle and PISA (both covered by insurance) - I am getting the Spectra this time (also covered).

My insurance didnt cover a breast pump but i ordered the Spectra from amazon for $150- not bad considering my last pump was double the price. So far, i love the pump. Its gentler than the Medela PISA i had... Also, it has a nightlight that has come in super handy when i dont want to wake everyone up while pumping. Lastly, it is super quiet. My daughter never wakes up when i pump next to her .

At what point in your pregnancy are you able to coordinate with your insurance company to provide a pump?

I ordered mine when I was 4 months and then it comes when you're about 30 days out. I recommend putting the request in asap. They confirm your pregnancy with the doc and then based on the due date is when they ship it.
