Trupanion vs. VPI Pet Insurance
I'm trying to decide which insurance company to get for my 10 year old yorkie. He underwent trachea surgery this past weekend and I am left with a $7500 bill so I've decided that going forward it might be best to get insurance for him. I would appreciate any feedback/info. THanks!

they might not take him over the age of 9
my pet insurance increased once my dog hit 9 a lot.
older pets like people are considered to have pre-existing conditions, so they might make you wait 90 days
also, they insurance does not over it 100% it usual and customary prices like at the dentist. Most of the time you pay the bill in full at the vet and submit for reimbursement, at least that;s how it was at my vet

I have pet insurance for my dog. I did tons of research beforehand and finally went with Healthy Paws. They've been great. My dog had to have surgery because he swallowed a piece of a toy, and they covered it without any hassle at all. I know other people who paid for insurance, but when they needed it the company didn't pay.
I say there's no harm in getting a quote or seeing if they cover senior dogs. If you qualify, I say go for it.
