Reason to have an amnio
If you had an amnio, why did you do it or why was it recommended? Are you glad you did the test? What if the test wasn't normal? How many weeks were you when you did the test? I'm so on the fence so I need help from people who have BTDT. TIA!
ETA: Fixed the subject because I was obviously half asleep when I wrote it this morning.

Reason the having an amnio
I had one done with my DS. I was 17 weeks about.
I had it done because I was 38. I skipped the 12 week NT scan because that test IMO is a bunch of BS. I wanted real results. not well maybe.
I was so glad I did the test. The anticipation leading up tot he test was the worst. The actual test wasn't bad at all. Its all sono guided and very safe these days. Let me know if you have any questions. NervousNell also had it done and both of us are glad we did and would make the same decision. Reach out to her too....she has talked to other girls on here too!

Exactly this, word for word. I was 35 when I conceived though. I wanted 100% concrete answers not percentages. I am so glad I did it and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Re: Reason the having an amnio
had it done at 20w only because they saw a birth defect at my anatomy scan. they wanted to make sure there was nothing else wrong with the baby. everything came back normal. it was torture waiting for the results though.

Re: Reason to have an amnio
I ended up not getting the amnio, however my doctor suggested it numerous times because of my age.
She also told me she did the amnio for all of her children because she just needed to know if there were any issues. She was also willing to terminate the pregnancy if something came back abnormal.
So ask yourself, do you need to be 100% certain that the baby is fine? If it wasn't, would you consider terminating?
If terminating is not an option I don't know if I would bother with the procedure then. I would just do the non-invasive tests.

Reason to have an amnio
Odd the blood test I just did was yes or no. Not percentages. I can't for the life of me remember. But either way I was 12w when I had it done. I was 34 at the time and will be 35 when I deliver. I was not ok with the risks of an amnio anyways so would have opted out regardless

Re: Reason to have an amnio
I had it done after my 20 week scan showed some abnormalities with one of my twins. Even though I had a choice I felt like I had to do it for the well being of the more healthy baby. The scariest part for me was that even though there was only questions for one baby, they had to do the amnio on both and I was so fearful because of the risks. The whole experience was terrifying and it was painful for me only because the fluid was low in one sac otherwise it wouldn't have hurt. In the end I'm happy i did it because it gave me piece of mind.

Re: Reason to have an amnio
I did not.
This pregnancy, I am over 35. I did have the non-invasive Materniti-21 test. My percentages were very low (yes, they are percentages, but your OB will simplify and tell you "yes or no"). I had a NT that was normal and I was followed super carefully by ultrasound.
These new screening tests are making amnios much less common.
IF there was anything found that was "off" on these tests, I would have done an amnio. I personally would consider terminating.
