I would still consider it but there would have to be good closets and an attic. I wouldnt buy a house on a slab though, there would need to be a crawl space in case there are issues with the pipes.

No basement is a deal breaker. We did not look at any homes unless it had a basement.
this exactly. we recently purchased our new home and we HAD to have one. I grew up with one, DH did not but it was something we both had to have.

Re: would you buy a house with no basement?
I have mixed feelings about it.
Up until I was 10 we lived in an apartment in Queens so we didn't have a basement. We then moved to Massapequa Park , into a split. It only had the one level down from the main level(some have 2). We watched tv in there.
When I got married and we bought our first home, we bought a split, that had that extra level down and it was unfinished and we never missed it. We had DS there and thought maybe one day we would use it. We ended up moving.
We moved into our 2nd home and really didn't care if it had a basement or not. It had a small tiny room as a basement and I made it the kids play room. At the time I felt like we needed a basement and a better layout home so we moved into our current home. House #3 had an unfinished basement that we thought we wanted. We finished it and it is beautiful. We have room for the kids that we did built-ins for storage for toys and a tv in there. Then the rest is all open with a huge tv and entertaining area. We NEVER use the basement. In the 2.5 years it has been finished we have used it maybe 5 times for company. I hate that we spent the money on finishing it. The kids don't go down either. They rather play in there rooms now or watch tv in the family room.

Re: would you buy a house with no basement?
I'm mixed too. I had a basement growing up. For the first 10 years or so it was nothing but a headache for my parents with leaking, moisture etc. my parents spent A LOT of money making it into an area that didn't have problems. When we were looking in our price range. None of the basements were finished. They were a mess. The thought of finishing them and having to spend extra money on leaks etc was daunting to me. We ended up with a house with no basement. But kinda feel like the kids toys are taking over now. I sometimes wish we had a basement. But it will never be a deal breaker for me. An extra bedroom would Be sufficient too.
