How old were your kids when they started FaceTime?
My ds is 8, almost 9 and just got back from 2 weeks at sleep away camp. He's presently on FaceTime with one of his cabin friends. He also came home with a girlfriend.  She gave him her number, email address and Instagram account. And to boot, she's going into 6th grade and ds is going into 4th. LOL She's still at camp, but I'm sure they will talk when she gets home. Is this normal 4th grade stuff? Do your kids FaceTime with their friends?

How old were your kids when they started FaceTime?
Yes! between 4th and 6th grade facetime is all the rage. They use some other apps as well, like Oovoo, which can facetime up to 10 people at one time. My son uses Skype too.

I think it was the end of elementary school/middle school for my oldest.

My dd is going into 3rd and she facetimes with her cousins and her friend who moved away last year. I dread the day she comes home telling me about boys or having a "boyfriend"!

my daughter got her ipod touch when she was 7 and facetimed family only. In 3rd grade, age 8 - she started facetiming some friends. It seems to be very popular among her friends the same age a fe w of her friends have instagram and/or facebook which I am not allowing ..... Ugh - BF-GF stuff...I dread that!!! She is 9 and I havent heard of any of that yet...she is entering 4th gr.
