Where did you get your counter/bar stools . . . Question added, backless stool with young kids?
Looking for the island in our kitchen, not sure where to start looking.
eta- Additional question . . . Anyone have backless stools at your kitchen island/counter and have very young kids? Most of the styles that DH and I like have no backs but I'm thinking that might be an awful idea with little ones. Thoughts?

got ours from raymour and flianigan…..mostly because we were there ordering couches and saw counter-height chairs we liked.

i say get ones with backs. mine barely come over the come over the countertop height so they dont interfere with the look. they are safer for young ones and more comfortable for us than the ones we had with no backs.
i got mine from bed bath and beyond.

one set was from ashley furniture. it was part of a table set but they might sell the chairs separately.
another set was from bed bath and beyond.
both sets had backs. the ones from ashley were better quality. the bed bath and beyond ones were shaky and swirled.

The manufacturer of our counter height chairs is valley view oak. We got them at fireside furniture in new jersey. I liked that we had the ability to do a custom order. You could pick the wood, the finish, and leather or no leather for the seat. They are very comfortable. The thing I like the most is that they don't tip over when my kids are getting into and out of them. Edit they are now called canal.dover furniture, but they are Amish and made in america. They also do custom work.bar stools
