Does red wine need to be refridgerated after opening?
I always refrigerate it but I feel like it ruins the taste

No. I never refrigerate red wine... Then again, it usually doesn't last long once it's opened.

Re: Does red wine need to be refridgerated after opening?
If I plan on drinking it in the next day or two, I keep it out.
Sometimes I throw it in my fridge and it becomes the cooking wine. I usually keep a bottle each of white and red "leftovers" in the fridge for cooking - usually a few months.

Yes you can. Red wine can stay good for a couple of weeks as long as it's closed properly with the cork or a vacuum sealer.

No, you don't refrigerate it, but it does need to be drunk a day or two after it's opened.

If there is leftover, we cork the bottle and keep it on the counter. We NEVER put red wine in the fridge.

My DH is a HUGE red wine drinker and won't drink opened red wine past 2 days.......tops. No matter how you seal it, the flavor starts to completely change after only a day or two.

Re: Does red wine need to be refridgerated after opening?
I'd only put it in the fridge if it's super hot out and you want to keep the wine all week. A day or two? No.
If red wine is sealed properly and kept under the proper temperature, then the wine will not be corked. There may be a slight change in taste, but not much. It may even taste better depending on the wine.
I worked at a fine dining restaurant for a number of years and the wine was kept in a Cruvinet (like a tap for wine) and some wine was kept for a few weeks. You only had to clean out the spout every night.

I am a HUGE wine drinker in general and I have never had a problem drinking properly sealed wine after 1-2 weeks. Maybe cheap stuff doesn't spoil as fast?

Refrigerating it is going to help prolong it. Think about fruit on your counter verses fruit in your fridge. When you take it out, don't drink it right away, let it sit for 20 minutes before you serve. The temperature of the wine is going to change how it tastes. Reds should be served between 62-68 degrees.

Yes I was going to say. Some people wont' drink it, but have they TRIED it? Or are they just assuming it isnt' good anymore? I had a bottle that I corked really tight, stored in the fridge and it was absolutely fine a week later. It hadn't changed taste at all. I think a lot of people are just assuming it's bad and tossing it without even tasting
