lunch drink options for kindergarten

besides juice, what do kids brings?

I really dont want to send DD with juice - she cant handle the sugar! lol and sometimes it hurts her stomach. and I cant send milk because she only drinks lactaid (again...stomach issue)

She doesnt have the strength to open one of the small poland spring bottles yet. I am afraid of opening it for her and it spilling out in her bag.

suggestions are welcome!

TIA

I would do water. Check with your school if they have aides in the lunchroom. Our school does and also has PTA volunteers for the K lunch time. We open up a ton of bottles the first week. After that they kids help eachother. You could also try a thermos with water to see if that is easier for her to open and use.

Re: lunch drink options for kindergarten

I'm sending water in a thermos brand container for drinks. You just push a button and a straw pops out. It is leak proof and is insulated so the outside doesn't get wet with condensation. They are also very narrow (12 oz) so they fit nicely in a lunch box. I was going to keep a Poland spring bottle in my DD school bag if she needed addition water besides the 12oz. The teacher and lunch monitors help the children open containers so it shouldn't be to big of an issue if you sent in a bottle she couldn't open.

Water in a funtainer like the above said. You can put the lactaid in the funtainer, it keeps stuff cold for hours

Water is our usual drink. My older ds would get chocolate milk at school for snack.

Re: lunch drink options for kindergarten

I try to stick with water for lunch and snack. I usually do one of two things - I unscrew the cap of the Poland spring bottles and then rescrew it on - loose enough for the kids to open but not loose enough that it spills. It works for both of my kids (even my DD since she was 3). Or I put the water in a foogo straw thermos (these never leak for us) or other water container for my older son.

Also, in both my kids schools there is always a teacher, aide or parent happy to help open the drink if needed. I just do the above because I know my kids won't always ask and then just not drink...

DS loves water so we always send him in with a thermos for lunch and another one for snack.

He used these...which kept them cold and are easy to open.

Water only. This is the way most schools and parents have been going anyway.

Interesting because I tell my DDs how when I was a kid we brought Capri sun or juice boxes and never carried around bottles of water (or PAID for water!!) - that's what water fountains are for!!

I stopped buying reusable bottles cause DD loses them the first week of school!

My school has half day kindg. aides that go to lunch with kids and help to open drinks/foods. Also, the Kndgers eat with 5th graders so that the 5th graders can also help if needed. The "big" kids love helping the little ones

My DD gets water for school, never juice, but she's a HUGE water drinker so she's fine with that.

We have been using these reusable water bottles since she was in Kindergarten (she's in 2nd now) and they are great. I just fill them from the water dispenser in our fridge and it's so much cheaper than buying water bottles every week.

Oh those are cute!
I've been going through the small 8 oz poland springs like they are going out of style since I give one in her lunch and one in her snack.
I have to get these

Re: lunch drink options for kindergarten

I do horizon milk for snack. I get it at bjs because they are the only ones that sell regular milk. She has a hard time with the straws sometimes so at least for snack she can ask for help in the classroom.
Lunch is water in a thermos. I throw ice in it and it's still
Cold by the time she gets home.
